No menu bar after installing V6

Post by fchakib »

Hi,

After successful download of V6, it installed and been activated without any error. V6 launches and displays startup screen normally. Everything loads OK but there is no menu bar. There is also no mouse clicks available left or right outside the cockpit. Hitting the Alt key changes nothing.
Only the escape key works and displays the interactive menu associated with it.
My V6 is then useless as I cannot access anything. Please help me find what is causing this. I have done 2 dowloads and 3 reistalls with the same result.
Thank you.

Hello fchakib ,
Fouad C.

Quick test:

Try setting Fullscreen=False in your Prepar3D.cfg file, save it and test P3D again.

My Prepar3D.cfg path is:

C:\Users\mynamehere\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v6\Prepar3D.cfg
[DISPLAY]
Fullscreen=False

Thank you Martyson for your reply.
Checked the V6 Prepar3D.cfg file and the "Fullscreen=False" is already there

MotionBlur=0
WideViewAspect=True
FullScreenBackground=True
FullScreenAutoFill=True
Fullscreen=False

Any other idea?

You are welcome.

What are your full system specs ...... including OS, monitor(s), video card(s) and driver?

Do you have a home built PC or store purchased PC?

Which P3D product did you purchase?
Did you have a previous P3D product?

Left Alt key usage:
Press it once?
twice?
Hold it down?

Hello,

We are looking into this issue but currently cannot reproduce it. What are your machine specs including video card driver version?

While we look more into the issue setting UseHTML5UI=true in the [USERINTERFACE] section of the Prepar3D.cfg should resolve the issue temporarily. The Prepar3D.cfg is located in your roaming app data directory: "%appdata%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v6".

Fouad,

Your Windows 10 is not quite up to date. I don't think updating it will fix the issue, but when you run Windows Update in the future, make sure that in Update, under Advanced options, the switch "Receive updates for other Microsoft products" is set to On.

That will ensure that your .NET Framework and C++ libraries are updated.

Can you confirm whether or not switching to HTML brings the menu back? Also, can you please confirm that ApplicationMenu.swf is the the Scaleform folder in your P3D install directory. It should be about 7MB. If that was file was corrupted somehow or blocked by an overzealous virus scanner, that might explain why it's not showing up. Enabling content error reporting should also spit something out if a scaleform file can't be found for some reason.

You could also check uipanel.cfg in ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v6 to confirm what directories P3D is loading scaleform and html files from. By default the UI panel entries should be:

[Entry.0]
Title=Default Scaleform UI
Path=Scaleform
Required=True
Active=True

[Entry.1]
Title=Default HTML5 UI
Path=HTML5
Required=True
Active=True

Hi,

So first the workaround shared by Rob did work and now I have the menu showing.

The Scaleform folder is present in my install directory and it contains the file ApplicationMenu.swf that has a size of 7394KB.
In the uipanel.cfg, the 2 entries are as they should be:

[Entry.0]
Title=Default Scaleform UI
Path=Scaleform
Required=True
Active=True

[Entry.1]
Title=Default HTML5 UI
Path=HTML5
Required=True
Active=True

Thank you.

I think I have got to the bottom of this. At least on my system. I have a Quad core system BTW.

I don't think P3D is creating the default job scheduler information correctly to the Prepar3D.cfg file.

I noticed that the Job Scheduler info was different to that of my P3D v5 install, which runs quite sweetly.

I copied it across (V5->V6), and voila!!

All is good with the world!

Everything is smoother, particularly with PBR aircraft, I have a menu, and my FPS is not so bad. Practically no stutters. And sliders in places I could have only dreamed of in P3D V5...

This is what P3D wanted to create:
[JobScheduler]
AffinityMask=15
P3DCoreAffinityMask=15
MainThreadScheduler=2
RenderThreadScheduler=0
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=1

And this is what I set it to

[JobScheduler]
AffinityMask=15
P3DCoreAffinityMask=15
MainThreadScheduler=0
RenderThreadScheduler=2
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=3

What I'm not sure if is if the v5 version is the default, or if I tweaked it. I will investigate further.

Hope this might help people.

Andy

PS.. I did prefer the white writing that the HTML fix gave, over the red... anyway of changing the colour? I have the HTML fix turned off now.

I tried this modification and it works wonderfully. Menu is present, but more importantly, the sim is now silky smooth. Was having microstutters with the original install from the default KDCA, but this modification has now completely eliminated that problem.

Early testing is rivalling the performance of 5.4 for me. Thank you!

I also tried the modification with your suggested [JobScheduler] values and it worked fantastic.

Now I have the menu and ideed the sim seems to be smoother.

So a big thank you Andy.

No problem, glad it worked for you.

Just be aware that my information was for an i5 processor, so it's likely that you may have some better performance enhancements from using that from your old V5 config file as you have an i7 (quad core but 8 threads, assuming you have hyperthreading running)

If I'm right (possibly not, I'm holding my hand up here as a caveat.....), it should look like:

[JobScheduler]
AffinityMask=255
P3DCoreAffinityMask=255
MainThreadScheduler=0
RenderThreadScheduler=2
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=4
