Screen resolution 256x256 versus 4096x4096!?

Post by francescodoenz »

I am suprised I do not see any difference neither in sharpness crispness and neither in FPS between both resolutions? I use a 4k samsung 43 inch monitor..
Any rationale explanation?
Many thanks in advance for your inputs!!

I doubt that your Samsung has a 256x256 resolution. The lowest non-HD resolution mine is capable of is the old 800x600 CGI resolution. Also don't see a 4096x4096 setting, the native (recommended) is 4K x 2K (3840 x 2160).

There is world of difference between screen resolution and texture resolution. Be sure we are talking about the same thing.

Thanks as usual for clarifying...yes it's texture resolution, I was playing with the settings under the graphics heading of P3D, but is it logical that I do not see a difference when playing with this setting, no difference in the graphics quality and neither the FPS? Most likely a dumb question with an obvious answer...sorry!?
And es, I checked the resolution of the samsung, it's native 3840x2160!

Texture resolution should normally not have any impact frame rate but if you are using high resolution textures then it can consume a lot of VRAM; in fact, I've maxed out my 11GB quite easily in a few specific conditions and when that happens performance will suffer greatly.

Must be, but I was especially surprised that I am unable to see a difference in quality of the landscape and cockpit, I fly exclusively over the Alps with swiss, french, italian and austrian photoscenery...I am not at all complaining about the scenery which is plaisant and the flight smooth, but I just wanted to see the difference in quality with opposing texture resolutions!!
Many thanks!!

Terrain texture is unrelated to the texture resolution setting you are playing with in the display settings UI. Photo scenery default texture is 256x256 unless you select high resolution terrain textures check box where they become 512x512. Using the tweak in the config file can up that to 1024x1024 which is where I operate and it looks great!
