[RESOLVED] Prepar3D v4 wont launch. Corrupt scenery.cfg \ terrain.cfg

Post by degeus »

Hello,
Since last week my V4 crashes/stops going on very soon after the beginning of the start-up. There is no message, the start-up window (P3D logo) remains unchanged.
It happens after some 8 seconds, in Task Management I can see that the processorload drops from some 13% in a few seconds to 0. At that moment the filesize in use is some 32 MB.
It makes no difference when starting as simple user or as administrator, although in the settings is ticketed to start as Administrator.
In Properties all functions of security are ticketed.
What can be wrong and what can I do to solve this?
Withkind regards,

Hello Piet de Geus

Does the Windows Event Viewer list any crash logs here ?

Hello Elaine,
The program comes into a halt, it still is "active" according to task-management. So it does not crash in the litteral sense of the word crash.. Occupying some 32% of memory (16MB).
If logs are made, in which folder do I have to look in EV for finding that log?

Hello Elaine,
After the tedious work of testing all the consecutive steps I finally arrived at removing the scenery.cfg and the terrain.cfg.
At that moment P3D came alive, be it that it was only the default scenery, as defined during start-up.
The only add-on I had in the Scenery.cfg (NL2000 Scenery) had still its "old" number sequence so there were overlapping numbers since the last update that raised the number from 126 to 130.
Now I am moving that part of the scenery to the Add-on XML system in order to have the default free for P3D itself.
So, Problem solved thanks to your document.
Thanks a lot.
