BMP format for halo.bmp file

I want to slightly change halo.bmp file for better looking runway and PAPI lights. I can modify halo.bmp file in GIMP, but when I save or reexport that file, P3Dv5.3HF2 doesn't display PAPI lights, or displays it, but incorrectly. Are there some special settings for export from GIMP ?
