I know this has been discussed but is there a fix to make the runways landing lights to stop popping when approaching?

Which P3D version are you testing?

Are you seeing this at an Add-on airport?

Do you have a video?

I did not take video but I was going into KSLC from the south, I think 34L. I can reproduce and post maybe tonight.

Ok, sounds good.

Did you do a full P3Dv4.5HF1 install including scenery or just a e.g., Client update?

Is KSLC a default or Add-on product?

I did just the Client not anything else. It is not an addon airport but I do have ORBX-Global-OpenLC-Vector installed.

The runway light popping has nothing to do with any recent update or any particular scenery or airport. It has nothing to do with your graphics settings and it has nothing to do with your hardware performance.

It's actually a really old bug that originates from the FSX era. It has been reported by many people over and over and over again for several years to no avail. Not a single response from LM, ever.

Here is my most recent thread about it:

Good luck getting it fixed. I've tried for about 10 years now. Yes, for real.

Wow, it is very annoying for sure. It just takes all the realism away from the landings. Thanks

I agree, not bad at all.

I'm still amazed by the fact that many users and developers seem to thinks it's perfectly fine that half of the lights in the middle of the runway are missing during every single start and landing. The same community that can go on and on for 20 pages about some switch or knob not having exactly the right sound, or that some detail in the tailfin logo has a slightly darker shade of blue than in real life.

Although I find the light popping in that particular video pretty ugly and annoying, it's not even close to the runway light popping you get in other areas, e.g. with parallell runways or when crossing runways. The lights all go pop pop pop pop all around you. It's like an airport disco going on every night. If our systems were struggling to display all the lights, then fine. This is not the case with this one. This is a bug, pure and simple. I'd rather have 399 FPS and show all the lights, than 400 FPS with the airport light disco. It's not 2005 anymore, it's time to ditch that failed attempt at light LOD radius optimization.
