I just did a couple more quick tests with KB4041676 installed. With PMDG 737 & 777, selecting aircraft and location from startup menu and ActiveSky 2016 running on background, loading with Aerosoft Mega Airports Frankfurt & Helsinki CTD happened consistently every time. But with FSDT Kennedy KJFK and default KMIA with otherwise similar test setup , only one time out of five.

As I said earlier though, this may need some more verification before it would be safe to conclude that KB4041676 really fixes the issue.

Placebo effect. If you weren't having any CTD's prior to this issue related to the MS update and still are having CTD's (even limited ones) the issue hasn't been resolved likely.

KB4041676 gave my P3Dv3.4 the same issue as KB4038788. After hiding it like the other one, I was back in business. Thats two security updates I cant have due to this MS .net bug. Pretty soon I am just going to start posting my user names and passwords and save the hackers the hassle!

Same for me. Problem unfortunately seems not having been cured also with this weeks Windows update (KB4041676). After having installed, P3D 3.4 is resulting (at least on my system) in a CTD at 100% loaded :-(

Needed to uninstall and deactivate this update too. After doing so P3D was running smoothly . . .

Hi Everyone,

We currently still do not have a definitive date on when a Windows patch will be released fixing this issue. Microsoft is actively working the issue and we are communicating with them through every step of the process. Various users have posted several workarounds that can be used while this issue is resolved. I want to thank everyone again for their patience. I am temporarily locking this thread and will post updates as soon as more information is available. I will reopen this topic once the patch is released to gather everyone's feedback.

Hello everyone,

Microsoft will include a fix for this issue in a Windows 10 update scheduled for release around November 14th. This issue was caused due to a bug introduced in the KB4038788 update. This issue is specific to 32-bit applications which is why Prepar3D v4 was unaffected by this update. There will not be any updates required or released for legacy Prepar3D versions. If we receive any additional updates or information before then I will update this thread. Thanks again for your patience and for working with us to resolve this issue.

Hi
As per a post earlier today, I have installed the latest Windows 10 updates but P3D v3.4 still gives the "Error creating child window" problem followed by complete crash and closure of the simulator, even with simple aircraft e.g. A36. Whatever Microsoft think they have solved, it does not seem to be this issue, at least not for me. Perhaps, I can be thankful that the latest updates do not seem to have fouled up P3D v4! I live in hopes that they can resolve the problem soon, or I shall be getting X-plane 11 out of the hangar.

Same here : just after Loading 100% "Error creating child window" followed by crash.

When I got the issue "Error creating child window" for the first time, it came only after Fall Creators Update and not after KB4038788.
P3D v3.4 worked fine with KB4038788 and a little workaround without "Error creating child window".

But, after Fall Creators Update i got the "Child window error" and P3D v3.4 doesn't work anymore.
At that moment, i said that this issue was maybe linked with KB4038788 but i was not sure (post). The issue persit and it shows that is not linked.

Hope that helps

Hm. I installed the update KB4048955 today as well and get in some cases (not always) the "error creating child window" error at 80 % of loading process, but WITHOUT a following CTD. (After the error occurs the loading process goes on and at the end I am in the cockpit.)

Hi
I think you may be correct Livingston. My problems essentially started with the Fall Creators update. I think Microsoft need to take a good look at what that might have caused, or maybe it just compounded an earlier problem that just did not show up until that significant update. Sadly, P3D v3.4 is unusable for me.
