[RESOLVED] G-Sync causes massive loss of fps.

Post by stevefocus »

I have just done a clean install of p3dv3, on launching it I noticed my fps was around 15 when I had frame limiter set to 35, but noticed if p3d was not the app in focus e.g having file explorer or a browser as the focused window, fps would be at 35.
On disabling G-Sync via nvidia control panel I stopped having this problem but re-enabling it causes the problem to come back. Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix apart from disabling G-Sync? The monitor I use is Acer x34 and my driver is 378.92 which I installed after using DDU

Hello

I've had the exact same issue with the low frames when G-sync was enabled on programs in windowed mode, where the frames would be normal if you turned G-sync off or you had the app unfocused.

For me the problem was solved by turning off windows fast boot.

On windows 10 Go to controlpanel - system - power settings - choose what the on/off buttons do - and uncheck "activate windows fast boot"
(Note that my windows is in danish so the wording might not be 100% correct, i guess you'll figure it out)

Again in Danish but it is the top one.

Thanks for that, I will give it a try when I finish work in the morning. If any devs read this who would be the responsible party to fix this problem?

Hello,

I'm running 2 GTX 980tis and an ASUS ROG PG27AQ monitor (4k, G-Sync), I have never had any fps problems.. Are you sure that in the Nvidia Control Panel G-sync is enabled for full screen and windowed mode?
Also, I turned off V-Sync (from p3d), and I turned on V-Sync (adaptive) in the NV control Panel, because when the fps get higher than the monitor's refresh rate, G-Sync will come off.
I've also set the fps limit to unlimited (in P3d settings) as G-sync will do that thing anyway..

I'm not sure what are my fps, but the sim feels smooth. Prepar3D isn't the app that you have to look at your fps.. but more about the smoothness.

Regards,
Maksim

Edit:
I'm running a much older driver because of VAS issues with the new ones. 376.53
PC specs:
Motherboard: EVGA Z170 Classified
CPU: Intel i7 6700k Overclocked 4.5GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX3080
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz 32GB (2 * 16GB)
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Hi, I tried both full screen only and full screen and windowed mode, both selections caused fps to dive, as soon as it was completly disabled I had no problems.

Did you turn off the in-game fps limit and in-game v-sync?
