Support,

In the Learning Center you state that for best performance in a multi-channel system we should, hardware lock or genlock the video cards.

Before investing in this hardware I would like a little feedback on how well multi-channel works without genlocking the display video cards.

Can you get decent synchronization across multiple visuals without gnelock?

Hi Guys,

I will be working on multi-channel setup through the weekend. If you have time would appreciate some feedback.

Cheers!

P3D Support,

After many hours/days of test we can not get multi-channel sync to work very well. I have requested for some feedback on non-hardware sync and if it is even possible. We need to have some feedback before spending thousands of dollars on new graphics cards and a genlock system.

Can you ping us on how to proceed?

If the multichannel system is configured for network synch, the host should wait to start the next frame until all slaves are done with the current frame. In this case, channels should never be more than 1 frame off from each other, but each screen will still refresh as soon as that system is done rendering it's frame. Gen-lock would help guarantee that all monitors flip the frame buffer at the same time. That would reduce visual tearing but would not reduce stutters. If you're systems are prone to occasional stutters with a single channel, the problem will be worse was you add channels because every time any one channel stutters, they will all stutter together. If your system is going to be running significantly lower than your output's refresh rate and/or you plan to make rapid camera movements, gen-lock would be preferable.

Does playing with the display settings and/or synch rate make a difference in the performance you are seeing?

Thanks,

Beau

Hi Beau,

How can I disable the network synch in a multichannel configuration?

Thanks,
