HUGE FPS Variations on i9 9900K @5.0 GHZ

Postby airplaneguy0021 » Thu Jul 16, 2020 7:21 pm

Good afternoon/evening, everyone.

Ever since installing P3D v5 (yes, even with no addons), I get really bad FPS variations, jumps, stutters, whatever you want to call it. It really is frustrating, and for me, capping my FPS and monitor refresh rate is not an option. Is there anything I can do to stabilize the frame rate, since it jumps from like 60-150 in the default fighter jet scenario.

Thanks!

Specs:

i9 9900K @5.0 GHZ
GTX 1080Ti
16Gb Ram
P3D on NVME SSD.

@ airplaneguy0021,

I just checked the F35A at KDTW 4R.
I use two monitors.
Unlimited I see 85 to 95 FPS (normally I lock at 29).
No big variations, jumps, stutters.

You mentioned:
"capping my FPS and monitor refresh rate is not an option"

Why is that?
Best Regards,

Hi there, sorry for late reply. When I lock my frames, the amount of ghosting I experience on my display is nuts, and unusable.

Thanks!

@ airplaneguy0021 ,

Did you build your own PC or did you purchase a name brand PC from a store?
Is your PC a home built PC or a name brand store bought PC?

As I'm about to upgrade to a similar rig I'm curious if my recent discovery will help.

I've just posted about how v5 defaulted to a setting in Task Manager to run at Below Normal on my PC. Setting it to High fixed all my current performance issues. Could you see what yours is set to, and if so, try this and let me know if it helps? Thanks.

Just to verify.
Are you referring to the View Update Speed (updating the graphs you are looking at) in the Task Manager?

I found a solution to a fairly significant problem with some major STUTTERING in P3DV5 after working for several days trying to fix this. It turns out that P3DV5 (and maybe earlier versions) DO NOT do well with Hyperthreading in Multi Core processors. (Hyperthreading is a version of multitasking the cores). I could not run P3DV5 with anything but minimal settings without getting some serious stuttering in the display. We looked at every possibility but it was still showing up with default aircraft in default scenery. Even with a very high end processor (Intel 9th Gen Core i7 9700K (4.9 GHz Turbo Boost) Eight Core.). After some last minute desperate interaction with Mr. Google, I found a post on hyperthreading effects and got into the BIOS and turned that off and VOILA, Silky Smooth operation at even the highest settings. Keep this in mind and it might save you some serious debugging time.

I had the same problems with the I7-3960X processor. With hyperthreading on, the processor was 100% loaded. Image frequently froze for a few seconds and the connection to ProSim737 was also frequently broken. After disabling Hyperthreading, the problem was resolved.
