P3dv4.5.13.32097

Postby barrytitchen » Fri Mar 20, 2020 3:21 pm

Two days ago I went to launch P3D and something very strange happened. The program initiated and I got the P3D logo screen as usual then there was a flash of the program loading screen and then nothing appeared to happen other than my screen reverting back to the normal Window 10 layout. I tried to start P3D a couple of times but the same thing happened. I had been flying the previous day without any problem and the only change in my system (Windows 10) was that after flying, I update my Microsoft Office software from Office 2013 to 2019!
I tried reloading parts of P3D but still the problem did not go away. I noted that Chaseplane booted up without any problem so I change this setting not to boot automatically. Sadly, my problem with P3D remained. Further investigation has shown that while there is no P3D symbol showing in the task bar, Task Manager shows that P3D, or part of it, is running but there are no indications on the screen.
With self isolation under the coronavirus regulations offering a lot of sim time, I will really go mad if I cannot solve this problem quickly.
Grateful for any help and advice that anyone has to offer.
Kind Regards, BJT

I have tried all the general debugging suggestions but to no avail. My gut feeling is that the problem lies outside P3D since although there is no visual indication of the program running on the screen, it is running.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It would be interesting to know if there are any entries in Event Viewer at the time where the crash occurred?

Did you do steps 5, 6 and 7 of the General Debugging Steps?

Hi,
Thanks for this. It would be helpful to know if there is a specific area I should be looking in. I am showing errors in Application and System. Looking at the Administrative Events there are errors showing for ESENT, Security - SPP and Wininit. I have a gut feeling it is the latter that is causing the problem.
Would appreciate your thoughts.

Hi,
Thanks for this. As yet I have not moved on to steps 5,6 & 7 since this effectively means a full reload of P3Dv4.5 and all add-ons which I am trying to avoid. Looking through my events log (Administrative Events) there is a Wininit error showing that might be the cause; however, I do not have the knowledge to investigate this further! Any ideas.

To get to the Event Viewer and the correct log, right-click on the Windows icon in your Task Bar, then select Event Viewer.

Click on Windows Logs, then on Applications. You will see a lot of lines with time-stamps on them.

Now scroll down, and about the time when P3D failed, you should see the word Error with an exclamation mark on red background to the left of the word.

Click on each of the Error lines, until you see some with "Prepar3D" in them. Now in the big field below you'll see the information we need.

Hi Jorgen,
I could not find anything P3D related but what is shown below is a recurring error every time I have the P3D problem on start. Looking back through the forums I found that this problem has occurred before with P3D. I am wondering if I should try and load the P3Dv4.4 client and see if this overcomes the problem.

What was suggested to test or what was the resolution you seen in the posts?
