I7-9700K with P3D
I7-9700K with P3D
Hello pilot friend.
In 2/3 months, I plan to make an Upgrade of my PC, new case + Motherboard + Ram + CPU + power supply.
After hesitating for a long time between an I5-9600K, the i7-9700K, and the I9-9900K ,I decided to take the i7-9700K, also following the advice of many simmers, who according to them and the perfect compromise between power and price.
But I saw on several forums like Redit or Hardware.fr that the i7-9700K presents problems of overheating due to the soldered IHS.
I would like your opinion for those who have this processor.
thank you in advance

You may want to double check your sources and or check on others. Soldered HSI is a good thing vs paste which is not as good. I believe (don't know for sure) that the 9900's and the 9700's are soldered and the 9600's are pasted, not as good -but 9600's only have 6 cores so managing heat not as critical.
Get the 9700K or 9900K. You can sim both with confidence.

Using the 9700K here at 5.0ghz with water cooling and the CPU temp is steady below 70F in heavy P3D scenarios.

Re: I7-9700K with P3D
Were I to buy one today it would be the 9700K, the only difference to the 9900K is hyper-threading. I don't use HT with P3D ergo the 9900K is wasted money for me. Others want the highest numbers they can get but I'm an engineer and don't like to throw unnecessary resources at a problem.

I can also confirm no problems here with i7-9700K OC @ 5GHz with air cooler from Noctua. Temperarture stays between 60-70 Deg Celsius. A good air cooler is recommended with a good heat transfer rate. Also the case must be large to allow a sufficient air flow.
When I bought the system in November 2018 i thought, hyper-threading was never used by FSX or P3D so a cpu without this awould be a reasonable cost saving factor. On my former systems I had hyper threading always disabled for better performance of FSX/P3D.

Re: I7-9700K with P3D
The attached graphic HT on vs HT off with identical settings.
Settings:
Flightbeam SFO 1L SSTIK3 departure; Orbix NorCal; PMDG 747; AI
Notice the graphs are nearly identical through takeoff roll and then divergence when the terrain engine kicks in.
oh, the cpu is a six core Coffee Lake

@Martison @funknnasty
So your message is, P3D4 is better with hyper-threading?
@funknnasty
Is the lower graph with more spikes without hyper threading? Looks like this produces more little freezes, than the upper one with an even load.

Re: I7-9700K with P3D
As I see things, reading in several forums, the general consensus is to have hyperthreading off.
Personally, I have seen no difference between hyperthreading on or off.
But, budget-wise, the i7-9700K with no hyperthreading is cheaper than the i7-9900K, where you have the privilege of being able to switch back and forth between on and off, otherwise the performance of the 2 chips is identical.

I recommend no hyper threading. So if you're not really interested in how the sausage is made go with the 9700k. Your out of box experience with the 9700k will be easy with very little compromise in performance vs the out of box experience of the 9900k.Blaunarwal wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 3:31 pm @Martison @funknnasty

The top graphic is with no HT - the bottom graphic is with HT. There is indeed a lot more noise with with the Hyper threaded graphic- and my guess is it's even worse with an 8 core processor with HT on.
Re: I7-9700K with P3D
Hello,
Thank you all for your answers and precious advice!
I intend to leave to buy the i7-9700K after having several positive reviews for this processor.
I also take the opportunity to ask you if only you 3000 MHz is sufficient in RAM memory. I plan to take 2x8 GB to get 16, but hesitate on different frequency. I had initially selected 3600 Mhz CL18 in 2x8GB. But according to many people this is huge, and 3000 / 3200Mhz would be enough.
Do you have a recommendation for me?
I specify that everything will be with a GTX 1070 Ti.
Thanks you in advance.

Personally, I would go with the 3600 MHz.
If there are several different brands/models to choose from (no matter what frequency), then get the one with the lowest CAS Latency.

Yeah, I think 3200-c14 to 3600-c16 is the range you should shoot for. 3200-c14 memory is a solid middle of the road P3D V4 performer and is all but guaranteed to give you the least amount trouble with a standard XMP install build.

Re: I7-9700K with P3D
I did a test awhile back: runway 25r FSDream Team LAX, with ai; Orbix SoCal; Pmdg 747 -
CPU at 5 ghz
2400 c10 27fps
3200 c14. 30fps
4133 c17 33fps
So,at least with my test setup, memory speed with P3D shouldn’t be so easily dismissed as not important.
