RX 7900 XTX and P3Dv5

Post by Timo N »

Hello!

I am looking for a new GPU and at the moment its between the RTX 4080 and the RX 7900 XTX. I have heard about problems with p3d and AMD GPUs and i was wondering if they are still existing. Does anyone here have an RX 7000 gpu and want to share his expirience with p3dv5 here?

Best regards

Can't help you Timo, regarding the performance of a RX 7900.

I just upgraded, last week, my RTX 2070 Super (8Gb) on an i7-9700KF rig, to a GeForce RTX 4080 (16gb) on an i9-13900KF 64gb rig. Coincided with the release on Version 5.4 of P3d.

I only briefly considered going down the AMD lineup but, like you, I had heard of problems in the old days. There also seemed to be so many options and no comparative P3d reviews.

P3d V5.4 is running very smoothly with images of great depth that I could only imagine earlier this year. Good to have the extra VRAM as well.

i use an amd 5800 x3d together with an amd 6900xt and have absolutely no
stutters ... i let it sync with my projector (60Hz). When i free the fps i get
between around 120fps on ground and about 200fps in the air.

Have you expirienced any other issues like white lines or flickering VC windows?

Thats good to hear. If the RTX 4080 would be cheaper it wouldnt be that hard to decide between the 2 cards. I like nVidia (all my previous cards were from nvidia) but i dont want to support their pricing atm. The rx 7900xtx has a better non Raytracing performance and in general more vram. I would do it but it would hurt me to just have to go with the 4080 (which has less performance and vram and is more expensive) just because of p3d as i am currently switching slowly over to msfs with p3d still being a solid 2nd sim.
