Lost all runway markings

Post by timwass88 »

On all airports without add on scenery (which is the vast majority), I have lost all runway/taxiway markings in P3D v5.3. It's just huge slabs of grey.

I've tried disabling add on scenery, but nothing's fixed it yet.

Has anyone had this issue, and does anyone know of a fix?

P3D 5.2.22.27615 is a year old.
I no longer have it for testing.

Have you thought about doing a full install of the current P3D5.3.17.28160 ?

I had this issue once, and the cause turned out to be wrong layering in the scenery configuration file.

@Martyson - sorry, I am actually on 5.3.17.28160. Does that make a difference?

@JorgenSA - when you say you had an issue with wrong layering in the scenery config file, can you remember how you fixed that?

Thanks Martyson

I've followed the debugging steps carefully, but I still have no runway markings unfortunately. On the list at the end of the debugging steps see below.

Prepar3D version - v5.3

Operating system- Windows 11. This is a recent change, not sure if this has something to do with it.

All add-ons installed (applications, scenery, vehicles, etc.)

PMDG aircraft
Flight sim labs A320
Quality Wings 787
Various UK2000 Scenery, Taxi To Gate Scenery, FlyTampa scenery, Aerosoft Scenery, Just flight scenery.

Hardware (graphics card, CPU, RAM, displays, etc.)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz
Memory: 32 GB RAM (31.92 GB RAM usable)

Changes made to your system – overclocking, graphics accelerators (NVIDIA Inspector), debuggers

None that I know of

Changes to Prepar3D's settings or configuration files

I've not made any changes to the settings sliders for months, and this is a new problem. The only settings I can think of which are outside of just changing settings on the sliders is that I have had the Honeycomb yoke/quadrant configurator for a few months which activates a yoke/quadrant profile in the sim.

Crash logs or error messages

None.

Hi timwass88 ,

After running the Debug steps was all your scenery still installed and working properly?

Have you made any changes since running the debug steps?

From the debug steps:
Did you test after step 5 (before doing step 6)?
Did you have to do step 6?

5) Remove your generated files.
Delete the files in these locations, Copy the TEXT below and paste them into the windows search bar

Delete the following generated folders/files. This will result in any add-ons being removed/disabled.

%PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5
%APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5

6) Install/reintroduce each add-on and attempt to confirm the error is present. If an issue is discovered with an add-on, we recommend directly working with the third-party developer to resolve the issue. If the third-party developer finds an issue they need support with, they should reach out to the Prepar3D team directly with details.

Hi, yes I did test after step 5.

All addons had gone, but I still had no runway markings.

I then reintroduced addons piecemeal and tested. Still no runway markings.

I am using P3Dv5.3HF2 (5.3.17.28160) Academic

I assume you are also?

Start P3D's default flight.
Daytime todays date.
Then go to KDTW rwy 04R.

Post a screenshot?

Sure. So I loaded up the default flight on P3D v5.3HF2. I then switched to KDTW.

Here's the screenshot of KDTW with all addons disabled (i.e. after step 5 in the debug steps): https://imgur.com/a/UC7QnES

Ok,

Radar altitude is ok.
MSL altitude is wrong.

Uninstall Add-on scenery(s).
Uninstall P3D scenery.
Reboot PC.
Re-install P3D scenery.
Test again.

Or, Uninstall Add-on scenery(s)., uninstall P3D, re-download the full product, re-install full product after checking the download ZIP's Checksum is ok.
Test again without Add-on scenery(s).

I, too, have no runway markings.

Completed a fresh install after removing every trace of P3D v5 from my PC.

Fresh install still had no runway markings.

Have reinstated my original setup from a back-up so no screenshots.

Latest version of 5.3HF2 installed to M:/Prepar3d v5.

Could the installation to a different to default path be the issue? Don't have space on my C drive to check this.

Can't remember at which update they disappeared at, have been coping without them but think reinstatement is overdue.

Many thanks
