Hi everyone

here is again a small update -:)

Found the program that causes the CTD when calling ATC services
It turns out to be the IVAO Altitude Pilot Client

Chronologically:
Clean install of P3Dv5.3
+1-FSUIPC --> no problems
+2-Leonardo`s Maddog --> no problems
+3-Some scenery --> no problems
+4-CRJ Pro --> no problems
+5-GSX Services +Level 2--> no problems
+6-IVAO Altitude Pilot Client V1.10.5b --> CTD when calling for ATC

Luckily there is no need for reinstalling the sim from scratch.
It is enough to uninstall the pilot client. After that ATC services are again available.

Some observations:

With P3Dv5.3 clean install there was a small delay (Like 1-2 sec), between the moment the ATC window with black background is drawn and the moment text within this window was displayed.
After the installation of GSX services+Level 2, ATC window with its text options appeares instantly together

After installing IVAO Pilot client, the ATC window with black background appears for some seconds and then P3Dv5.3 CTD

Maybe some devs know what is going on here.

For me it is late, going to check on the IVAO forum tomorrow whether this is a known issue.

Hope this helps some people

Ok let me recap here.

I have had P3Dv5.2 hf1 installed in C:\programfiles\lockheedmartin\p3dv5 ever since it was released. I have flown over 400 hours in the Carenado Baron in this platform with no problems whatsoever. I have also flown with the other A/C I have, namely, ATR72-600, BN2 Islander, HS-748 Hawker Siddley, Beechcraft Bonanza, Cessna Caravan, all with no problems at all.

I down loaded v5.3 and did what was said to do on the LM web site i.e windows control panel and delete the v5.2 prog.

I then installed the v5.3 program into the location that P3D elected i.e. C:\ as above. Everything worked as before, loading up my SAVED A/C the Baron, with v5.2 EXCEPT when I clicked on the ATC button a small black screen appeared and then CTD. (The ATC window was set in the Saved Aircraft Baron to open on loading.)

I then did a CLEAN install of 5.3 on a new separate drive with no addons , absolutely as it came out of the box,so to speak, opened it up and selected one of the installed A/C, all worked fine with the default everything but when I clicked on the ATC button, same as above, CTD.

SO I RELUCTANTLY did exactly as LM said in its PDF, knowing that I would loose all my settings, and that is to uninstall everything including all the items in Documents from my previous version and any trace of P3D v5.2 and it's files.

So I installed v5.3 into the drive location suggested by LM i.e.c:\ program files\Lockheed martin\P3Dv5, and that worked ok with absolutely no addons nothing, opened up the prog. clicked on any aircraft and all worked, clicked on ATC and CTD again.

This time I had no FSUIPC/Active Sky working at all so I had to reprogram all of my switches etc in FSUIPC just to get everything working, which it did no probs, but click on ATC and CTD !

Event viewer showed what I stated in an earlier post, where 5.3 crashed at same time as direct x stopped working.

So I thought now that I have gone to all this problem of re installing 5.3 and the extra FSUIPC etc I may as well load up the Carenado Baron that I fly and see how that performs. Perfect as before no problems just like 5.2 EXCEPT no ATC so I click on the ATC button and CTD again, HOWEVER I did here ATC calling in the background when I was flying, but I did not have a screen that I could reply to !!!!!!.

The Carenado Baron is the only other A/C I have installed. I do NOT have any other programs installed on this Flight Sim dedicated PC that are not used by the flight sim. Programs used are :- Little NavMap - Active Sky - Spad.next - Brunner program for the Yoke - Air Manager - Spacedesk for 1 other Tablet. The only programs I had running when I was flying with 5.3 was the Brunner, Spad.next, air manager.

This beats me as it is the first time I have ever had a problem with P3D.

My PC specs are :- i9-11900K, Z590 M/b, 32 gb ddr43000 ram, RTX2070 video card, 3 x 1 tb ssd drives 6 screens in total.

Both 5.2 and v5.3 run at 40-45 fps and show about 2 gb of VRAM used with graphics setting at about midway.

Any help would be appreciated..... Rod

And another small update.

The issue with the Altitude Pilot Client and P3Dv5.3 is a hot topic now on the IVAO forum as more users are reporting this
The devs are investigating

@Rodders1947

Just read through some posts on the IVAO forum, concerning their Pilot client and P3Dv5.3

Their client crashes the P3D HTML Context Menu used by GSX/ATC/Sode.
As you experience the same symptons (Crashes when callign for ATC services), maybe their is another program on your PC, that causes this issue?

I am not a dev, just trying to help.
Seems to me that JorgenSA and Martyson are familiar with software development

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply but as I have stated above I only have those programs loaded on this Flight Sim Specific PC apart from windows and Trend Micro security.
What is strange is that I did a 2 hour flight yesterday , without ATC, and it all worked fine but to be honest I never noticed any difference from 5.2 either in loading times or performance or visual display.....

I will either put up with no ATC or revert back to 5.2 !!

Cheers

Well,

a guy on the IVAO forum posted a workaround by changing some lines in a configuration file.
Have not tried that one yet, but just finished reinstalling all my add ons.
I did notice that the simconnect version with V5.3 got a higher version number. That is the part that the IVAO client uses to talk to the sim.

But hey, same as you, no problems encountered when flying in V5.3.😃

I do keep P3Dv4 on the same PC. For IVAO for now I''ll use this version.

And now the one million dollar question 😉.

Did you disable the real-time scanner part of your anti-virus program, during install. Or eventually uninstall your anti-virus program before installing the sim.
I am using here the default Windows Security Suite.

now I am confused.... I have 5.2 on my C drive and it worked fine, so just to try this out, I loaded up 5.3 and specified E drive, but some how it overwrote the 5.2 on C drive, no sign of 5.3 on E drive, and now atc works, but when I look at what version I have on C drive it says 5.1 ???????? go figure LOL

The files on your C: drive are in several sub-folders called "Prepar3d v5", and the sub-version of v. 5 (5.1, 5.2, 5.3) that you install last will overwrite whatever are in those folders.

You can search your C: drive for "Prepar3d v5" and see where these various sub-folders are located.

I intrude on this thread because I also have these problems.

Suddenly, every time I try to open a menu of an external program such as Active Sky or GSX, I see only a black rectangle in the center of the screen and after a few seconds P3D crashes.

In the windows event viewer I read this

I state that I performed a clean installation of P3Dv5.3. I tried to disable some addons but nothing has changed.

I'm happy for you, but I've never messed with P3D, so I'd like to know how I can fix it.

Freccia,

Please "intrude" on the threads, we are here to try to help you.

The exception code you are getting:

Codice eccezione: 0xc0000374

indicates a so-called "heap corruption", which is an internal Windows error. I found this thread, that might be helpful to you:
