Error starting P3Dv5.1 and continuing CTD

Post by Freccia »

Hi, I have a completely new computer on which I have installed P3Dv5 (latest version).

Periodically when starting the simulator I see this error and I don't understand what causes it.

Also, compared to the P3Dv4.5HF3 I had on the previous computer, P3Dv5.1 seems very unstable; often, after choosing the type of aircraft or changing something in the options, after launching the simulator (OK button) it goes to CTD, or it closes before the bar reaches 100%.

I do not like this.

Other annoying problems that are frustrating me:
  • lighting: too much contrast, I can't adjust it with the normal options in Lighting
  • on all planes, alphanumeric characters on the aircraft displays are very badly seen (on the 4.5HF3 version I had no such problem)
  • jagged lines like I had a 10 year old computer, instead I have this:
MB Asus PRIME Z490-A
CPU i9-10900K
GPU ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 ROG STRIX OC
RAM 32GB DDR4 3600 HyperX Predator
PSU Corsair RM850x
MONITOR Samsung C32HG70

In short, a half disaster. Could you help me understand what the problems are and how to solve them?

Here are some screenshots

@ Freccia ,

What does the default P3D F35A look like?

GPU ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 ROG STRIX OC
What does OC mean?

Which video driver version?

Did you search the forum for the XML error?

Did you build the new PC or store purchased / name brand?

Hi @ Martyson, the F35A has the same problems, albeit a little less noticeable

It's the name of the video card, OC I believe means "OverClock" (an overclocked video card from Asus)

The latest version: 466.27

No, honestly no (I've been searching now, but nothing I can understand, sorry)

This is a new PC built by me (I was good once) :-)

@ Freccia ,

Is the airport in your last screenshot a default P3D airport?
Which airport and gate?

@ Martyson

Hi I wanted to tell you that I have solved all the problems (I found an online guide and I went to the assistance of my plane), except one: the XML error.

Could you please help me solve this last problem?

Also today (but maybe it's a coincidence) meter I was at the end of a flight of almost 3 hours, I had a crash with this error.

Thank you.

@ Freccia ,

You mentioned:

“This is a new PC built by me (I was good once) :-)”
"It's the name of the video card, OC I believe means "OverClock" (an overclocked video card from Asus)"

“Hi I wanted to tell you that I have solved all the problems (I found an online guide and I went to the assistance of my plane), except one: the XML error.”

Is the airport in your last screenshot a default P3D airport?
Which airport and gate?

Which online guide?
What were the solutions to the other problems you had (may have something in common with your current problem)?

All I did was follow the advice from the previous video, I don't know more.

@ Freccia ,

Ok,

You have a home bulit PC.

Overclocked video card.

You mentioned an intermittent problem:
“Periodically when starting the simulator I see this error and I don't understand what causes it.”

CTD

And several other problems.

And you cannot provide information on what solved your previous problems following an on-line guide.

It would be good to get P3D to a default setup, test it and report any problems.

The P3D debugging steps are here:

Ok Martyson, I will follow your suggestions, but my video card is not overclocked by me, so it comes out of the factory.

Hi Mrtyson, I think I have done everything you advised me, but the XML horror problem remains. Could you explain to me what it depends on and how to solve it?

Thank you.

The file "Standard.xml" contains you keymappings, and should be located here:

C:\Users\<Your User name>\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prpar3D v5\Controls

Try to search your C: drive for the file name and see if it pops up somewhere else.

What did you do?

The xml file is created when you install P3D.

Hi Jorgen, the file is exactly where you said, indeed there are two (Standard.xml and Standard.xmlx)

@ Freccia ,

Does your new home built PC have virus checking , Malware checking software running?

Did you encounter any problems when building your new PC?

Did you copy any P3D files or any other files from your old PC to your new home built PC?

When you previously used the "On-Line Guide" to solve your problems did you add, change or modify any files on your Home built PC?
Did you edit your Windows Registry?
Did you use a Registry Checker?

Previously I mentioned:
It would be good to get P3D to a default setup, test it and report any problems.

Have you done any of the following?
If you have, which ones?

Freccia, those are the files that should be there. Have you ever tried editing them in any way?
