rain in P3Dv20 looks terrible. I don't think it was even touched for 2.0. Also you should only see it this way at night if it's snowing and your landing lights are on. During the day it looks more like hail than rain.

Yes I agree, the rain drops/streaks even during the day are bright. Visible streaming water on the windows would be welcome.

the only time I ever saw it looking like p3d was when it was snowing and the landing lights were on.

actually, here is a perfect video of how it looks in RL landing in rain at night.. all they really have to do is blur the windscreen unless you turn on the wipers, then it can clear up a bit between swipes.. and lower the overall visibility in heavier showers...

sorry LM for being hard on you, but since you are claiming to be a training tool and not entertainment software, I expect as much realism as possible.

if the landing lights could light up the clouds that would be very very VERY cool :) the real simulator I saw could do that.

I want realistic rain effects on V2. That cessna citation video is a great example. It can be done. Also, imagine that nice water vapour trail on the wings and inside the turbine inlet (as seen on the 757 video above) during takeoff and landings!

Please LM, look into this!

when you look at what can be done in video games these days, this should be very very simple to do

hey, I found a way to make the rain look a little better at least (not so white). edit the Rain.fx in the ShadersHLSL folder.

change line 64 from

float4 cColor = float4(1,1,1,In.cDiffuse.w) * (cColor0 + cColor1);

to

float4 cColor = float4(0.4,0.4,0.4,In.cDiffuse.w) * (cColor0 + cColor1);

then delete the files in the folder: %localappdata%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Shaders

(those files will be recreated when you run p3d)

IMO it seems like default rain & snow affects have been a step backwards since FS9.

Just tried it, very nice improvement, thanks Tropebuster ;)

Hallo!

the rain and snow is still the same like in FSX. The FSX studio has - and please correct me if I am wrong - reduced removed few effects in quality due to performance hits. Same with VC rain effect now missing. I think, not sure, LM team will take a look at this for a version 2.1 or later. I remember they wrote it in the blog thread.

brgds,

Axel

It is ugly and the same as FSX but if you see with 3 screens.. it is worst. It is a cone that suddently disappears.. so I have in front rain and in the side windows (side monitors) cut and all clear of rain. I suppose this would be fixed.. as many of us use 3 screens to train with the sim.

Also I think is really important to have a good Rain system.. and not this. It is not just beauty. It blurs and lower the visibility. Something really important. And with DX11 now this is possible to do.. If not see train simulator as you can see in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmjDOOOUne0

as you can see also adds blur into the windshield.... marvelous!!

but you can clean it as seen here:
