Newquay airport (EGFF)

Post by TerrySim »

Good evening, I am running Version 4.5 including Hotfix 2 with ORBX True Earth GB South.
I have attempted a flight to Newquay airport in Cornwall but it doesn't seem to be represented properly, ie ATC doesn't know where it is, the ILS is inoperative etc. The autogen, buildings seem ok but the taxiways and runway look like something from Google Earth. It's the only airport I have been to that is affected this way so could you please enlighten me
Regards, Terry

I'd love to, I read your guide to posting screenshots but what's an image hosting website ? Can't I just paste one in somehow ?
Thanks, Terry

While I'm figuring how to include a screenshot, my apologies but Newquay is EGDG - I daresay you figured that out already

Just flown from there and it looks nothing like your picture.
I would suggest a scenery error?
Check your Orbx installation - validate the files and check where you have set the insertion point.

What you are seeing is most definitely not ORBX.

Terry,

Could you verify the airport that is giving you a problem?
EGFF
EGDG
or possibly
EGHQ

I was in an earlier discussion with someone from orbx and they confirmed my insertion points were correct but now I know it's ok on yours I'll get back to them. Sorry for the confusion but it was EGDG.
Thanks very much for your help

Terry,

You are welcome.

You mentioned:
"I have attempted a flight to Newquay airport in Cornwall"
Is that still a problem?

What airport name do you show for EGDG?

EGDG comes up as Cornwall airport Newquay - The puzzling bit is that everywhere else I've tried which, admittedly isn't that many, appears fine - I'm verifying the files again just to make sure and would you mind confirming my insertion points are correct given that I have no other scenery installed.

Thanks again, Terry

Last time I checked EGDG came up as St Mawgan AB

That's interesting because it used to be shared between RAF St Mawgan and the civilian side (Cornwall Newquay) When I type EGDG into the flight planner it comes up as Newquay and when I type St Mawgan I get nothing except the nearest match which I believe was St Joseph's somewhere else.
I'm still waiting for the verify
Cheers, Terry

If you start P3D and select airport EGDG do you end up where you want to go to?

Yes, sort of - I can find it easily enough 'vfr' but when I use atc 'ifr' it gets me close then gives up and tells me to use own navigation - It's like atc gets confused and can't find it.
I've completed the verification again, tried the legacy option and still the same. I suppose to get to the bottom of the mystery I'll re-install p3d but it's the nuclear option given how long true earth takes to install - Hey ho, if I can't take a joke I shouldn't have joined
Cheers, Terry

I should also have said that the gps knows where it is and points straight at it
