V4.5 HF crash 2.5-3 hours into flight.

Postby RobCom » Sun May 26, 2019 1:09 am

This COULD just be a fluke, but seeing as I have virtually no other issues with the sim I figured I would post this here to see if maybe this is an issue with the 4.5HF.

Hey y'all, I don't usually fly long flights but I wanted to give the Falcon 50 a nice hop from KTPA to KATL, but after almost 2.5-3 hours into a very nice flight it just locked and crashed to desktop.

I was switching from interior to an exterior view and it just locked. (I had done this several times during the flight with no issues)

I was using a mixture of AivlaSoft EFBv2 with a loaded flight plan, and the F1 GTN 750 with a landing procedure loaded and the window undocked on a second monitor. I had just made contact with Atlanta center and was preparing my landing procedures.

Apps Used during flight:
AivlaSoft EFBv2 (moving map)
F1 GTN 750 (maps and charts)
Flysimware Falcon 50
REX EF
REX Skyforce weather app
FlyTampa KTPA
Imaginesim KATL
Orbx (pretty much all of it)

The flight was, up to the crash point, perfect, fantastic performance, great framerate.

The PC was using about 12GB of my 32GB and the standard CPU/GPU load.

The sun was just getting ready to go down so the simulator was in the Day->Dusk transition phase.

If any other info will help just let me know. And THANK YOU for any help.

Here is the error: (I have a secondary warning about this error in my logs if needed)

Hi Rob

Same here with V4.5 HF. Just about 2 hours into a flight and all good. Suddenly only sound with video stalled. Then a CTD. Plenty of vram so no real ideas.

@robcom,

"I had just made contact with Atlanta center and was preparing my landing procedures."

Which software for Atlanta Center?

You have the good ol' Windows Kernalbase error.
What has worked for me is to treat it as a Windows problem, not a P3D problem and run the sfc and DISM tools to restore any corrupt files, (for some reason, there are always a couple).

@robcom,

"I had just made contact with Atlanta center and was preparing my landing procedures."

Which software for Atlanta Center?
Using the in P3Dv4.5HF ATC, I was using Jacksonville center for my flight following out of TIA and all the way up the coast, and had just switched to Atlanta center just outside of the airspace. I was following a flight plan I made in the AivlaSoft EFBv2, BUT I did not file the flight plan within the sim. The ATC flight following just makes me aware of traffic and makes flying less boring.

But the actual crash/lockup came a few minutes after that when I was switching from VC view to outside view.

True, it could have just been some sort of conflict that just popped in at that particular time. I will try sfc /scannow and see what happens, I haven't been having any other issues with my system, but ya never know with good ol win 10. I had just defragged all of my hard drives earlier in the day so I know it's not anything like that, but It could have been a page file error or some such nonsense.

You know what though, I just realized that the REX weather program and the REX Environment program both closed when the sim crashed, almost like they crashed too. Usually when I shut down the sim those 2 are still running in the background and I have to shut them down individually from inside each app. For some reason this didn't even occur to me until just now.

Even though I haven't' had any stability issues with either REX app, I'm going to try the same flight without them and see what happens.

Thanks guys, I think it may have been just a fluke, BUT I will report back if it continues.

Ok, ran the DISM and it said : The operation completed successfully.

and then ran the System file checker and it said: Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

So the system is in good health, I'll try another flight later, when I get a couple of hours, without all the extra apps, see what happens.

I solved a kernalbase error once by running DDU in windows safe mode to remove all remants of video driver, and then install a new one from NVidea. LM provides instructions on how to do this here: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic ... 5&t=126058

I use the DDU in safe mode on every driver update, I also don't install the GeFE or any of the other audio or 3D stuff, I do the cleanest video driver update I possibly can. Keep it simple and clean as possible. I have a very tight, very clean computer. HOWEVER, I run a lot of apps, I use it for everything.

My latest driver is the 430.64, so far I haven't had any issues with it BUT, I see over at the Guru3D there is a new driver out this morning, 430.86, This NEW driver is a "NVIDIA Studio Driver"? It says: provide artists, creators and 3D developers the best performance and reliability when working with creative applications. To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond.

However it also lists fixes for games so who knows, I might give it a try. I also have a hobby of making videos and such so maybe this driver might be a win win.

Anyways, I have not yet had a chance to fly a long flight without any addons running as my wife is trying to kill me by giving me all this work to do outside, and I spent last night being her grill master.

IF I get some time later, I may try that same flight today (but without the weather and environment app) , see if this happens again. That should be the real test.

Been getting kernelbase.dll crashes steadily at the ~2 hour mark. Fresh install of P3D 4.5 with the latest hotfix, fresh install of the latest Windows 10 x64, and clean 430.86 drivers.

Here are my system specs:
Intel i5-7500 3.4GHz
GTX 1050 Ti
16GB DDR4 RAM

The following programs have been running at the time of the crash: FSUIPC, ActiveSky for P3D, and the Aerosoft Airbus.

Oh man, that's not good news. Sorry to hear about your issues.

It doesn't look like you are running anything the same as me except for the FSUIPC. What version? I am running 5.15.

Latest version, 5.151. I did do a Windows update, which I'm testing right now, but I'm not holding my breath. Did you have any luck with the Studio Drivers?

After reading the post from ManuelG the NVIDIA rep I did not update, usually the game driver comes out about a week after the Studio so I'm waiting for that.
Quote: ManuelG,

All NVIDIA drivers provide full features and application support for top games and creative applications.

If you are a gamer who prioritizes day of launch support for the latest games, patches, and DLCs, choose Game Ready Drivers.

If you are a content creator who prioritizes stability and quality for creative workflows including video editing, animation, photography, graphic design, and livestreaming, choose NVIDIA Studio Drivers.

If you are both a gamer and creator, choose Game Ready Drivers.

Windows fully updated, I do need to update my FSUIPC though.

I think the game driver might be out, unless I'm missing something?

I've been doing some testing since installing a Windows update and have not been able to reproduce the crash. It is probably a coincidence, but here are my tests:
  • Flew the PMDG 747-8 for 4 hours, no crash
  • Flew the Aerosoft Airbus Pro for 4 hours, no crash
  • Flew the Aerosoft Airbus Pro for 3 hours (and counting) with ASP4 running, no crash
