I am currently running P3dV4.5, and have great performance with it, with all settings mid range to high. I have a ton of addon scenery, and most of the payware aircraft, and use ASP4, and clouds look great.

I have been thinking about upgrading to P3DV5.3, but after reading these posts, am a bit nervous about it. I use a NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super video card, with 8GB VRAM, and from the posts, it seems like that may not be enough, and will get OOM errors around complex sceneries with complex aicraft. From the posts, it seems the only solutions are to turn your settings way down. So how would this be an upgrade for me? Seems like I am heading back to the FSX days of OOM errors, without turning settings way down, with gives you poor visuals. Any thoughts?

I guess what I am asking, if I only have 8Gb VRAM, and therefore turn the settings way down, is it really an upgrade from P3DV4.5 for me?

Until recently, I had a nVidia GTX960 card with 4 GB of VRAM.

With this, I was actually able to run v. 5.3 mostly all the time, except for really demanding sceneries. But I will also say that I did (and do) not have any complicated add-on aircraft, which I understand demand a lot of VRAM.

OK, looks like my RTX 2070 Super 8GB card wont be enough with all my addons with an acceptable look. So, since I can't afford the 24GB new cards out there, will this 12GB card work with addon sceneries (including the infamous LVFR Miami), and all the add on planes including PMDG, FSLabs, etc?

I took the plunge and purchased V5.3 and intalled it, along with ASP3, ASCA, FSDT sceneries, London Heathrow Professional, FSLabs Airbusses, Aerosoft A333 and Aerosoft CRJ Pro, just to see how it would run on my current machine. I did NOT upgrade my graphics card, but kept my RTX 2070 Super with 8GB. It works great! Only uses max of 3.8GB of my graphics memory with London Heathrow and A333, which are both heavy on memory. I am very happy!
