Massive frame loss when not using True Sky in P3Dv5

Post by SlatsOnly22 »

Hello there! I've looked all over the forums for help on this but I couldn't find anything similar. I am using P3Dv5 version 5.0.31.35253, which is the most recent to the best of my knowledge. My issue is that when I switch from Advanced Atmospherics (TrueSky) to default clouds, I have a tremendous performance hit. I thought I may have encountered some error with addons, so I did a clean uninstall of the sim, and the issue continued. Here is P3Dv5 with no addons or settings changed: Advanced Atmospherics on (87 frames): https://gyazo.com/8657a063799b608eb1caeb69f0cd806d And here is default clouds (19 frames): https://gyazo.com/a122fe90e82a52b952d20a30123c4599 As you can see, there is a massive hit when changing from TrueSky. I would just continue to use TrueSky and forget this problem but TS has so many issues that its not really viable for me. Is this a problem that everyone has? When I have asked friends they don't seem to get this problem. I actually get more frames in v4 than im getting in v5 now with the standard clouds. If there is anything you feel I may be missing to diagnose this, please comment and I will edit as needed. Thanks!

for those who can't see it at first, the frame rate is shown in the bottom left corner of the screenshot.

I have no cloud art or extra shaders active, this is default P3Dv5

The version that you have is somewhat... er, outdated.

You should update to the current version available for download - v. 5.3 HF2.

As SlatsOnly22 asked if anyone had the same problem, I replied that with the same version I already had it.
Now I use version 5.3.17.28160 and I still have the same frame drop; in the same proportion.

Ah good, you then do have the latest version. The version you mentioned in your previous post confused me.

A couple of questions then: what are your system specifications, and have you looked at the various advanced configuration sites and tried the suggestions there?

The CPU type would indicate that you are using a laptop.

The base clock rate of your CPU is 2.8 GHz, which is below the required rate for P3D v. 5. The maximum turbo clock rate of the CPU is 3.8 GHz, somewhat above the minimum required rate.

But then you use ASP3D weather, which is rather CPU-intensive.

What I would recommend is that you take a look at the Advanced Configurations here:

https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/prepar3d ... ation.html

and here:

https://simmershome.de/prepare3d-v5-einstellungen/ (German site with English-language options)

This is to tailor your prepar3d,cfg better to your particular system, as it comes "out of the box" the prepar3d,cfg file is more or less a "one size fits all".

There is mention of something important called AffinityMask, for calculating its value use this calculator:
