Performance Issues After Changing Views

Post by erubini »

Hi,

Over the last couple of months, I have been experiencing a strange performance issue in P3Dv4 in which, after a couple of view changes (specially to the external views), FPS drops very, very low (< 5fps). The only way the issue can be repaired, apparently, is by exiting the simulator and re-starting it.

Over the last week, I have also experienced graphics issues on the sim menus, with buttons disappearing when I hover my mouse over them, and the menus' backdrops appearing entirely black after a while. Could you please help me narrow down what could be the source of these problems?

My configuration is as follows:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
32.0 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
Running on Windows 10

Thank you,
Eduardo Rubini

Eduardo,

1. Your CPU is running slow (for P3D purposes). Look into overclocking it to at least 4.5 GHz.

2. Go here: https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/prepar3d ... ation.html

For calculating the AffinityMask value, use this calculator: https://www.gfsg.co.uk/affinitymask.asp ... m=utilties

My Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU is 3.6GHZ and boosts automatically.

Hi Jorgen,

Thank you for the quick reply. 3.6GHZ was the maximum recommended by the company which built my PC (Digital Storm) - would you recommend any specific how to guide on the additional overclock? I am very afraid of messing with the wrong inputs and frying my CPU, so it's something I probably wouldn't do without guidance.

With that said, I used to run P3D before without any issue, even at 3.6GHz - wouldn't that indicate that the issue is something other than the memory clock?

As for the other settings you mentioned, should I adapt all of them in my CFG to the ones mentioned in the article, or just the affinity mask?

Best,
Eduardo

How do I know if mine boosts automatically, please?

Thank you,
Eduardo

From WIN10 desktop
Open WIN10 Task Manager
Click the Performance Tab
Click CPU
Note the CPU clock MHz
Mine is 1.99 GHz

Minimize the Task Manager

Start your P3D default flight (P3Dv4.5HF3)

Maximize the Task Manager

What is the CPU clock MHZ?

What were your Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU speeds?
