PDK Control over Ambient Wind and Temp

Postby Opus Software » Fri Apr 17, 2020 7:16 am

Please will you consider allowing third-party addons (weather engines) to finally take control of the simulator's ambient wind and temperature through the PDK interface.

If you could please allow a weather engine to take complete control over the Ambient Temperature, Ambient Wind Speed, and Ambient Wind Direction.

This simple upgrade will once and for all get rid of all sudden wind shifts, high TATs, inaccurate upper winds etc. It will also mean weather can be injected without any accompanying wind and temperature layers. The surface / upper wind and temperature will be controlled dynamically by the weather engine and can always reflect the intended real-world conditions. This should also reduce the work load on the sim as it will no longer have to factor in the wind and temperature layers.

This would be an ideal addition to the IWeatherSystem PDK functions. One function to take and relinquish ambient wind and temperature control. Other IWeatherSystem PDK functions to set the ambient wind speed, ambient wind direction, and ambient temperature (OAT).

N.B.

The current P3D::IWeatherStationV430 GetSurfaceWind() and SetSurfaceWind() functions are completely inadequate. At present the functions refer ONLY to the wind speed! Of course wind is a vector quantity, it requires both a speed and direction to be meaningful. I believe the current SetSurfaceWind() always sets a north wind direction of 000 or 360 degrees.

PDK Control over Ambient Visibility

This should of course be another consideration (not as important as control over the wind and temp though) and would eliminate the need to inject visibility layers.
