[RESOLVED] Helicopter tail rotor events

Postby lagergren » Tue Jul 31, 2018 2:09 am

There are no helicopter specific events for tail-rotor control. Which event is used to set the tail rotor right or left thrust?

Hello,

Rotor control SimVars are indexed. You can set the index to 1 to control the main rotor and 2 to control the tail rotor.

Thanks, but the simvars I see are related to rotor RPM and that is a constant. So how do I control the right/left thrust of the tail rotor? Would I use the disk pitch angle? I don't know if this refers to the blade pitch which would change thrust or the angle of the disk to the horizon or the centerline.

The rotor RPM SimVar is settable.

I can see that it is settable, but that doesn't help much. In the real world the rotor RPM is always a constant and the tail rotor blades change pitch.

Are you saying I should vary the RPM of the tail rotor to provide yaw control? How will that affect the flight dynamics that expect the main and tail rotor RPM to be constant?

Thanks in advance

It seems that the same events used for rudder in fixed wing are used for anti torque in helicopters.

Ok thanks. That's what I needed to know.
