Stability of AI ships

Post by Blaunarwal »

Is there a way to make ships heavier in heavy seas?

I already added a

[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
max_gross_weight =29798000
empty_weight =29798000
empty_weight_roll_MOI = 13352310
empty_weight_pitch_MOI = 60000000
empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 39531785
empty_weight_coupled_MOI = 0

section.

But the ship is still going up and down. Of course it should do that, but with a heavy icebreaker it shouldn´t be the same like a small speedboat. It shakes that much, a helicopter is thrown into sea. It is not the worst weather but heavy seas.

Roll, pitch and yaw is not the problem anyway, it´s up and down.

Regards

Dan

I found the answer, a setting which exists I think since 3.1

In the [contact_points] section you can add

ignore_waves =1

or

always_use_avg_surface=1

The latter seems to allow some ship movement but it doesn´t in my tests. It´s pretty much the same.

I´d love to see here a more diffential variable, to tune the movement of a ship, e.g always_use_avg_surface=0.5.
