Dynamic Ocean State

Post by tgaldi »

How can I set the ocean state in a custom scenario? Will the state automatically affect boats? (I'm using the 3rd party USS NIMITZ)

Have you tried setting the wind speed and direction in the scenario?

Using the presets such as stormy weather or major thunderstorms does not seem to affect it. The carrier seems to only start rocking with winds > 130 knots, although much too violently. The ocean remains the same.

Hi
Have a look at your sim.cfg [contact_points] section.
If you have this line
always_use_avg_surface=1
the boat will be steady whatever the state of the sea.

If you want some mouvements of the deck, the mdl must be developped for that.
have a look here
http://royalefrenchnavy.restauravia.fr/RFN-Navires.htm
and find "Appontage mer forte" by Jean-Pierre Baril.
Have also a look on FREMM Aquitaine (mer forte force 5).

Perhaps we will do that for RFN Charles de Gaulle by Sylvain (Author).

If you want having the total wind in the runway direction, have a look here
http://vlso.blogspot.com/
You can also use RFN carrier gauge.

Hi
Have a look, if you does not know, what our RFN team can do :
http://royalefrenchnavy.restauravia.fr/ ... DG_F8E.mkv
All are free RFN creations (gauges, boats, aircrafts,...) for P3Dv4 and v5.

Hi Michel,

Thank you for the links and information. I looked at the sim.cfg and it does not have a contact_points section. The ship does move, but only when the wind is very strong. Its movements at this point are far too violent. I also do not see the ocean change. I am really just guessing at weather settings - do you know which settings make the ocean more turbulent?

In the options / World try with Water detail on Ultra and special effects detail and distance on Hight.
Have a look on this little video. It is that you want?
Wind is setted to 27-32kt.
