Your System Specs

Post by comeup101 »

Just thought it would be nice to see what kind of rigs everyone is running. It's time for me to upgrade I've been riding the same system for quite a few years now and to be honest it's still running good at moderate settings but I know how much smoother it wood be at much higher settings with a new one. as of now:

i7 4790K overclocked to 4.6 Ghz
EVGA 1080Ti
32 gig ram DDR3 Vengeance
Asus Motherboard Z97
Creative Sound Blaster-Z
Samsung 950 Pro M.2 500GB
Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2TB
2 Western Digital @ 2TB each HDD
Corsair 750 PSU
running Samsung 34 inch ultra wide 3440-1440 Res

New Possible Rig From Skytech Gaming ($3200)

i9 12900K 3.4 GHz 16 core
MSI Mag Tomhawk Z690 DDR5
32 Gig Vengeance 5200 DDR5
Nvidia 3080Ti
Second SSD 2TB
2TB Western Digital Nvme M.2
1000 watt PSU
Windows 10 Pro or 11 Pro
Liquid cooling

For fun what are you guys running??????? and how well?

I am almost done rebuilding my system as follows:

Intel i5-12900K @ 3.7 GHz (overclocking to come, to around 4.8 GHz)
Asus ROG Strix Z690-I motherboard
32 GB RAM @ 4800 MHz
Gigabyte nVidia GTX 960 w/ 4 GB VRAM (to be upgraded later, candidates are 3070TI or 3080TI, depending on budget)
Drives 1 Samsung 1 TB M2 and 5 Samsung 1 or 2 TB SSDs, and one WD 1 TB HDD for downloading, unpacking etc.
PSU 750 W

This runs pretty good as it is now, I only had it finished on Friday so I am still working on tuning it etc. preparatory for overclocking.

Jorgen
System: i5-12600K@4.9 GHz, ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-I motherboard, 32 GB 4800 MHz DDR5 RAM, Gainward RTX 3060 w/ 12 GB DDR6 VRAM, Windows 10 Pro.

Jorgen that's a kick butt rig, once you get the GPU it will be one of better systems out there. (Budget) Lol I had mines in the cart but did not click purchase. I'm real close just waiting to payoff some bills.
I built my last one but this time I'm going to let Skytech Gaming do it and you can (watch them build) via Twitch great reviews and price, I compared the cost of building my own it was the same cost so I will give it a shot. I get nervous not doing it myself but I'm going to take a leap of faith.....

I fly on AMD R7 3700X @4200 on all cores HT off, 32 GB 3200 MHz Corsair, 512 GB .M2 drive. Few days after upgrade from GTX 1060 6 GB to RTX 3060 12GB and I'm relative satisfied.

I've never used an AMD with a flight simulator, how do u like? are you getting 30 FPS or do you have the urge for more? Sometimes I get the thought that I might over spend but I don't want to have to upgrade for a while...MY goal is 30FPS with high settings

3700X is not enough for high settings, it has high memory latency and low singlecore performance. For better results try i7 latest generation, or i9, in both cases with frequency as high as possible.

I use an i9 12900KF; 3080ti; 32GB ram; ASUS Prime Z690; Samsung 500GB M.2 for WIN11 Pro OS, a 1TB M.2 for P3Dv5.3HF2 and a 1TB M.2 for addons. ASP3D/ASCA, all ORBX, Black Marble Vector/Lights, BM Stargazer and MANY airports. Most sliders to the right, high MSAA, EA. No Overclocking. AIG_AIM traffic, MAIW (just FPL's & AC). ATC is Oncourse Software's PF3 on second PC. PMDG, QW 787, AS busses.

No VRAM issues and FPS rarely goes below 40 (unlocked) on an LG 48" G-Gync Monitor at 4K. Self-built system.

I am VERY lucky to have an understanding spouse...

That's funny (understanding wife), my wife gave me the thumbs up but said wait until the end of the year hoping we will see some price drops.
Max your system is pretty much what I want and it's nice to see you having sliders mostly to the right, what about flying into system heavy areas such as KLAX, EGLL, KJFK? KLAX is the worst for my system....

It's said that with changing Ethereum from proof of work to proof of stake in the next months, graphics cards will be useless for crypto mining and it's expected that prices for newer cards drop til the end of year as Ethereum has the biggest usage of graphics cards for mining. Regarding graphics card prices a wise decision...

I would say yes but I am still unable to drag these sliders all the way to the right. EA for example is still very performance hungry as it stands. Whatever initial framerates are to be divided by 2 once you get into VR.

However I cannot complain here as most of the sliders are on high on avg. My main goal was to be able to get decent framerates and enjoy the scenery on most demanding flights (FSlabs + EHAM/EGLL + orbx + GSX + AIG). I also use OVRDrop to display aivlasoft efb, Activesky, checklists, navigraph charts and vpilot during the flight which brings down performance further. I was originally using a 2080 Super but was experiencing VRAM issues (VR was using around 4-5GBs on its own). I only went for the 3090 to be safe on this side (Aside from the 24gb of VRAM, I believe the 3090 is not worth the price tbh).

I would love to get better/proper flight gear in the future. I have been rocking the Saitek X52 joystick for the last 2 years and would love to get into Virpil or Honeycomb. One thing I bought in the last year that I don't regret at all are the MFG crosswind pedals, can't recommend enough.

Finally my regular go to planes are (In order of choice):
- FSlabs A320X
- A2A Cessna 182
- Majestic Dash Q400
- PMDG 737-800NGXu

The toughest decision for me is buying a 3080Ti or 3090Ti and your comment helps! Nothing worse than spending a million $$$ on a new computer or upgrades and receiving minimum results. I don't know how many upgrades I've done and was disappointed but, I must say over the last 10 years simulation has gotten so much better. Its a thing of beauty when you don't have issues.

Maybe you wait for the new 40XX generation - either to buy a new 4080 or a then reduced 30xx ?
40XX release is expected for autumn, but as MLID states, it may be delayed to sell out remaining 30XX.
I assume all of this: 30XX sell out, 40XX release, Ethereum fork , would lower prices.
