I have 5.0 but had same error message.
Adding TdrLevel 0 using regedit resolved the issue at least at my system:
I´ve also selected Threaded-Optimization Off and limited to 58FPS at the Nvidia control panel.

That´s strange
The default value is Auto and it seem to work now, but at my system putting it to off once repair my sim after weeks of troubles and tests at once.

Hi Vaughan At my PC the problems always began, when activating the simconnect menu from PRO-ATC/X. FPS where reducing to half when I´ve undocked it to at a second monitor. Even when I used it docked at same monitor it started to flicker and also seperated windows of the aircraft as the FMC panel win...

My solution for all GPU errors and flickering simconnect menu was:
Open NVIDIA Control Panel. Click on 3D Settings → Manage 3D settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and locate the Threaded Optimization. Change the value to Off.
