CTD P3d v4.5

Post by FrmrSAirTr »

well I hope someone can help me with this.

After many years of good service the mother board finally failed on my Dell Inspiron 3487. All that being said, a local shop rebuilt my old case and installed all of my previous hardware (which were fairly new upgrades)

This is a fresh build (3/5/2024) I had been very happy with the previous installation of P3d v4.5 on my old system. Never had an issue one.
This P3d installation is a fresh install on the new SSD drive (not much else the drive) currently using 166GB of 1tb

The issue:
After a few minutes (sometimes 10 or less) any change in view and the program will CTD. I have yet to fly anything. Addon aircraft are Aerosoft DC-8 and PMDG DC-6. Both were installed on previous system without any issues. Other addons (Skyforce weather, FS ATC Chatter) have been uninstalled. I do have ORBX products installed but, they never interfered on old system so I have left as is.
I am at a loss :(

So:
New Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.

To see what is going on here, we need to see the error information from the time of a crash that is logged in the Windows Event Viewer.

To get this information, first note down the time of a crash. Then right-click on your Windows Start button and select Event Viewer from the menu.

In the left pane, click on the little arrow next to Windows Logs, and then click on Application.

Now, in the top center pane you'll see a lot (a real lot) of events with time-stamps on them, most of these events will say "Information" on them. Scroll down through that list until the time that you noted down, and then there should be at least one, but most often two, entries that say "Error". When you click on those entries, the error information will be displayed in the bottom center pane.

Copy the information from the bottom pane, and paste it into a post here. If you cannot do that, then find a line that begins with "Exception code" and put that line into a post her.

This sounds more difficult than it really is, but the exception code will tell us a lot about what happened at the crash.

I searched that exception code (which I cannot recall having seen before), and that brought up this page:

https://www.google.com/search?q=excepti ... UTF-8#ip=1

After looking through that, I would suggest you do the following, in this order:

1. Update your Windows version with Windows Update, and make sure that in Update, under Advanced options, the little switch "Receive updates for other Microsoft products" is set to On.

If that does not fix the issue, then

2. Search for all versions of the .NET Framework and the C++ libraries, and download and install all you can find, borh x86 and x64 versions, but only get them from Microsoft. After installing what you find, reboot and run Windows Update again as above.

And if that does not take care of it, then post back here, including the error information you then get.

Good luck -

Jorgen,

Completed the tasks listed above.

Updated windows. Receive updates for other Microsoft sources switch is on.
Received error: Security updates for windows 10 v 22H2, x64 based systems (KB50344741) Also referenced 0x80096004

Download latest .Netframework (8.0) and rebooted.

Verified C + + versions: 2005, 08 and 10 (2010 both x64 and x86 installed) 2013 (both x64 and x86 installed) 2015-2019 (x64 and x86 installed).

There is a later version C ++ (14.38.33135 .0). I am a little intimidated by the following “Use the following links to download this version for each supported architecture:” Not sure which to choose from. Ugh

All that being said, I opened P3d, and within 5 minutes changing view replicated a CTD!?!

Jorgen,

I ran the SFC checker. The following displayed per CMD screen

"Windows resources protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them"

After reboot the following message displayed per CMD screen
" Windows resources protection did not find any integrity violations"

I rebooted one more time, fired up P3d and after thirty minutes I had no more CTD when changing views. :)

Then I have to ask a few questions:

What OS is on this computer? What v. 4.5 version level are you at? What were you flying at the time of the crash?

If you were flying an add-on aircraft at the time of the crash, then try repeating the flight with the default F-22 and see if you can repeat the crash.

Jorgen,

Windows 10 Pro V22H2, Build 19045.4170, Experience pack 100.19054.1000.0

P3d Academic v4.5.14.34698. Since this is a new rig (per se) this was downloaded directly from LM . As I mentioned in an earlier post, I never had any issues with addon aircraft etc. So it appears that is not the case with this install. The aircraft(s) that was loaded during times of crashes, PMDG DC-6 A or B, Aerosoft DC-8-50 series.

At all times I was just sitting on the ramp at KSFO, in either external or internal views. Any change in views would cause the CTD, although today the app completely froze and had to use task manager to exit.

I did fly the F22 for a few minutes without any negative effect. So..............

This, according to my logic, points at one or more of the add-on aircraft so far.

Try to fly the F-22 around some more and see what happens.

Jorgen,

Just to let you know. I uninstalled p3d and all addons. Reinstalled a clean P3d, added each addon one at a time. After each install, loaded P3d. After all of the installs completed, loaded a flight plan (DC-8) completed the flight and happy to report not a single issue. Obviously there was some sort of hiccup on the first install.

Well................happy days are here again. Thanks for your time, suggestions and guidance.

There are so many things that can go wrong with complicated software and add-ons like these, that I sometimes think it's a wonder that anything works at all!

But this was good news!

Happy to help -

EMFBI, I see you have a 650 watt Power Supply. I am wondering whether you need something that will give you more headroom...at least 750, maybe 1000. Simply thinking, your computer may be getting too hot.

Definitely something to check, but don't rush to buy anything. Kernalbase errors can be linked to power issues. You can make an educated guess on how much you need by adding up the watts of your components; CPU, GPU, Drives, etc. and see how much they can draw. As Sherm says you could also be generating too much heat so check your temps when running the sim.
