Arrival AI aircraft descend to terrain

Postby bekesdd » Sun Sep 16, 2018 2:27 pm

It seems there is a bug in p3d v4 where if an arrival AI happens to spawn in close proximity to the extended centerline of the landing runway, either due to direction of origin airport in case of bgl compiled plans or the last waypoint in AI injected with a flight plan, the AI starts to descend at a high rate eventually ending up at ground level where it continues to ground roll on terrain at flight speed until coming to stop at the runway. From there however it exits and continues normally to its parking bay. Hope this gets looked into and fixed in a future update.

I can confirm this, the injection of the AI Traffic after starting the sim is strange. The ai aircrafts are injected at high altitudes above 30000 feet but already close to the airport about 20 miles or less. This is ending in a steep descent and ends mostly on ground far away from the airport like described above. After about 15-20 minutes all is coming to normal and the aircrafts are injected between 60-75 miles and are doing a normal approaches.

I have noticed this as well. Was at KLAS a few days ago taxiing to the runway and couldn't figure out why traffic was doing missed approaches until suddenly a 737 came driving out of the desert, through town, and on to RWY26L . He then drove down about halfway and took a taxiway to the terminal. Don't know if he was driving for a taxi company or Uber.

Actually that is another known different issue, which occurs only initially on startup. The terrain roll issue does not resolve after a few minutes of sim running, and does not cause missed approaches only ground rolling on terrain. It occurs throughout the session and only specific flights that come from particular airports or waypoints show this issue without exception. My guess is p3d atc immediately directs the AI for ils intercept as soon as it spawns since it is already in close proximity to the extended centerline, from there the AI probably tries to achieve the published final approach altitude and therefore dives losing decent control.
