One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
Hi Mpni,
The two files are identical.

OK
So we need to make same thing, but with the Effects.cfg file in the Effects folder.
Test P3D with the fx beacon and Effects.cfg file.
Have you the popup screen?

Hi Michel,
Yes the popup screen appears with only fx_beacon.fx and effects.cfg in the Effects folder.

Is the popup screen appears with only effects.cfg in the Effects folder?
Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
Yes Michel, it is there with only effects.cfg in the Effects folder. I suspect the problem may lie in another add-on, because I have also removed AFLT from the scenery and still the error popup shows on startup.
I will investigate further by eliminating other add-ons until the popup disappears.

Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
OK
The issue is due to a bad value in a effect fx file.
But yes, it seems you have an addon with an active Effects folder.
In the \Documents\Prepar3D vx Add-ons folder have a look at all add-on.xml file.
If the category "Effects" is present, the bad file can be find with the "Path":
<AddOn.Component>

xxxx

</AddOn.Component>
When you will find the location, you know now how to find the bad fx file.

Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
Michel,
The more I investigate this issue, the more confounded I become.
I was going through the add-ons in P3D one by one and unticked Add-on Manager of FS Dreamteam GSX. When I started the sim, the error popup had disappeared! There is an Effects folder in this add-on and I then proceeded to check which fx file was problematical, in the same way I did previously according to your guidelines. Every fx file I tested caused the error popup to appear! I opened a number of the files to see if there were bad values, but there were no obvious faults. Surely this cannot be? FS Dreamteam would not sell irregular files in their package.
Now I wonder whether there are values in the GSX fx files which are not in sync with the values in the effect.cfg file?
How could I determine this?

Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
OK quentcor
Now you know what effects folder cause this issue.
Rename this effect folder with .sav at the end.
Run P3D
The pop up screen did not appears.
Stop P3D, copy one effect with bad value and past it in the main Effects folder of P3D.
Run P3D.
Have you the pop up screen?

Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
Michel,
After renaming the Effects folder in Add-on Manager to Effects.sav and running P3D, the popup screen did appear. It seems there is another factor in Add-on Manager involved in the error message.
I have not copied an fx file to the main effects folder to test, until the problem has been found.

Re: One greater than Zero Popup on loading P3dv4.5
Hi Michel,
I have also been consulting the guys at FSDeveloper in the AFLT forum and the suggestion was made that I uninstall and reinstall Addon Manager, as the there could be some discrepancy in numbers outside those specified in the effects.cfg file and the uninstall/reinstall process might correct the problem.
I have carried out the uninstall and reinstall of Addon Manager and this has corrected the error popup.
Thank you, Michel, for sticking with me through this learning curve. I am truly grateful.
Kind regards,
Quentin
