Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Had this experience with both the FSLabs and NGXu. But also had a smooth flight with both.
Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
@ zdvet ,
If you report your poor performance problem on the other developers support forums you can then see if other pilots are having the same problem.

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Finally found out what causes low performance for me. It's the Volumetric Clouds setting that I have on Ultra. On v5.2 that was no problem, on v5.3 that kills a lot of fps for some reason. EA enabled on both.

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Im also having performance issues that were not present in v5.2.
Flights start off fine, perfectly smooth and high FPS. But once in cruise or about 1 hr into the flight. The microstutters and low FPS happen and it is present all the way to the destination.

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
LM must have messed something up/at least made changes to something since performance can differ so much under the same settings. Hopefully they'll have a look at it, I basically can't fly until this is resolved. How unfortunate that the 5.2 installer doesn't exist anymore.
Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
I experienced the same huge FPS drop as well as blacked out textures. I updated client, then content and scenery and cleared the shader cache. But with this huge performance problems, I switched back to the 5.2 client, and now everything(!) is back to normal again. So I guess there is something odd inside the 5.3 client.

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
I tried to revert to v5.2 client, but still have performance issues. So I guess it lies within content or scenery. It turned out to be Volumetric Clouds that cause bad performance for me. I used to be able to have them on Ultra without getting low fps, but in 5.3 I get low fps on Ultra, so now they're on Medium.
Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Absolutely terrible framerates with this new 5.3. What the heck have you done of fatal mistakes this time?!
AGAIN a lot of waste of time for your customers since you back then, for some strange reason, suddenly chose to start all over from scratch!
Now have to implement a total image harddisk restore back to 5.2 - which, at least, is not THAT immature as this 5.3.
Cracky!

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
I did not observed performance drop after upgrade from 5.2HF1 to v5.3. I have road traffic density on zero, use EA mode with legacy ASCA clouds. I tested volumetric clouds, yes, there is fps drop, where v5.2HF1 can do 30 fps on MEDIUM, v5.3 needs LOW for same fps. But nasty artifacts on the terrain boundary vs clouds known from previous versions are gone.

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Unfortunate that Volumetric Clouds are now more demanding, I don't really like the setting at Medium. They wrote that performance had been optimized when it came to clouds so it's kinda disappointing.
Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
On both FSLABS and PMDG at cruise level the frame rate drops inexplicably and the simulator is completely unusable.
The odd thing is that before getting to cruising altitude everything works splendidly.
We were doing just fine on the 5.2 with the exact same settings and addons.

Users here experience the same. Seems yours fits that one. Maybe you check your gpu usage too?zdvet wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 12:04 am I did another flight and had no issues... restarted the computer and did another, now having the issue again. Issue is so abrupt and choppy that it gave me motion sickness. Frames are about 1 frame every 3 seconds and causes the aircraft to sway back and forth fairly violently.
Turned graphics down the graphics down as low as I could with no improvement, VRAM usage is at 4.2-4.5/9.1

Re: Prepar3D v5.3 Bad Performance
Confirm that. Performance is nowhere near 4.5. Much more stuttering than previously and severe FPS drops on descent and landing (last flight was 15 - 20 fps in default scenery, however the climb and cruise was still OK) with the same settings as before. Strangely enough, that fps drop happens in some flights only, others are OK. I will return to 4.5 until the latest version has matured a bit. No idea what they did to deretiorate that much.

Martinr8,
What are your hardware specifications? Version 5.3 (and I do hope it is 5.3 HF2 you are talking about) does place much higher demands on your hardware than v. 4.5.
