Strange issue with freezing display at one place

Post by jfri »

A new issue has popped up in P3D 5 ( it was not there from start ). First it surfaced and a restart of the system fixed it. But now it seem constant. At Save ESGP and to a lesser extent at nearby Landvetter ESGG the display freezes at regular intervall when looking around (TrackIr) or flying around. These pauses could be a fraction of a second or longer. In the latter case the whole sim seem to be hanged up for a short while. When this problem shows up and a I go to another airport the issue vansish. And as soon I go back to ESGP it comes up again. What on earth could this be and what can I do ? It is in default scenery in non enhanced scenery it shows up. It seem independent from which vehicle I use. Are there some repair function for the sim ?

@ jfri ,

Which P3D XXX version?

Does it happen day, dusk, nighttime or all times?

Are you using AI Traffic, payware airports, or other Add-ons?

Have you tested without TrackIr installed?

I have Version 5.0.31.35253
Happens at all times
I have Orbx regions and some of their airports but not their global products so ESGP is default scenery. And when I went to one of these Orbx airports (KORS) the issue ceased to exist. Then back to ESGP and it's there again. Finally the issue is still there if I exit the track ir software.
I have the traffic sliders set to about 25% I think. The only thing that I can see determine if the issue arise is if I am at the Save or Landvetter airport.

@ jfri ,

"I have the traffic sliders set to about 25% I think."

I would suggest testing with all airport / cars / boats / aircraft AI traffic at zero and no TrackIr.

Then a new test at ESGP and Orbx airport.

If you set P3D FPS to 29 does it vary during your new test?

If you look at your Windows Task Manager CPU and GPU does it vary during your new test?

I set all traffic sliders to zero and made flights without TrackIr also fps limit to 29 (was 30)
Result problem remains the same at ESGP but fps stable. At KORS (Orbx airport) not the same problem. But I had microstutters and the fps dropped somewhat in the turns. If you mean utilization of CPU and GPU they were not constant during the test (this was also the case before). CPU utilization was higher at KORS.
So TrackIr and slider settings obviously has nothing to do with this problem which seem fully logical since it is only in one less performance demanding airport I have this hangups.
I did notice one thing in the task manager. The disc activity of E: (where P3D is installed) was higher at KORS than ESGP.
I did run a test on HDTune and it reported no errors and the benchmark result was normal

@ jfri,

Could you do a video from the VC cockpit showing what happens at all three airports?

No I don't see how I can make a video from what I see in P3D. And even if I could I don't think you would get more information than you already have from my description. When I look around or turning during a flight the display occasionally hangs up (freezes) for seconds at ESGP and only in this area.

Hi.

Could you check if you problem is similar like the stutter that I can see in this video while I am looking around.

Stutter begins at 0:18

I would say that my stutter events last longer. When my display it is as least one second and up to about 5 - 10 seconds. I have also noticed that when the display freezes I can see the waiting wheel cursor

I even tried starting a flight outside the ESGP area and flying towards ESGP. When I was at a dis distance of about 20 nm from ESGP the problem started to pop up.

I can confirm your problem. This is an example Taking off from ESGP. In some minutes you will see a long pauses like 1:19.

@ Alox ,

Do you always run video recording during your flights?

Your flight was pausing the moment you took off.

These long pauses occurs with or without recording while are you flying.

Similar case at MMVA https://www.dropbox.com/s/14flqiyeoal63y2/MMVA.mp4?dl=0 Stutter begins at 0:18

At ESGP you can observe these long pauses in the following minutes:

Stutter begins at 1:18.
Stutter begins at 1:38.
Stutter begins at 1:43.

The other micropauses that are observed in the video is due to the recording.

I always have problems when recording (for specific tests only) during a flight.
