4.4 windshield effects rendering issue

Post by MediocreGorilla »

Hello everyone,
I'd like to come up with an issue regarding windshield effects rendering I get since updating to v4.4.
Please note that I'm not only speaking as a user, but also as a beta member of FSLabs - just so you know I'm in direct contact with the developers. Nothing on the windshield effects has change since the public 4.3 version.

On the FSLabs A319x, I and other (public) users experienced the windshield effects being clipped by a certain distance to the camera (just like a classic clipping plane). So when moving the camera, the clipped areas would change depending on the viewing angle. Some layers are clipped, other seem to disappear completely. You'll find a picture of the issue attached, I can also provide a video if necessary, but I think the pic speaks for itself.

This issue is NOT consistently appearing. It would occasionally appear on certain sim loadups, and my feeling tells me it is most likely in dusk and dawn. It would stay for the whole sim session, just as it would be fine all time when there's no issue on loadup.

I can assure you it is not caused by any shader modifications or other addons whatsoever. I did a clean Windows and 4.4 install recently and got it right away with a vanilla sim.
Editing the clipping settings of the active camera (especially NearClipOverride) would affect the distance of the clipping plane, but not bring back all layers of the effects.

I don't want to say it's a 4.4 bug as I did not see it on other addons yet, but I need to ask whatever change from 4.3 to 4.4 could affect this. FSLabs devs couldn't find a solution for it yet. Interestingly enough the rightmost window does not seem to be affected at all, but according to the devs there is no difference to the other windows.

Any hints are highly appreciated!

Thank you in advance and kind regards.

Hoping that 4.5 would fix this up, unfortunately I have to come back to tell you that nothing has changed.
While it is a bit harder to trigger, it would behave the same all the way as soon as it appeared.

Can anyone please take a look at this? It's a pity such a nice feature can be so unusable at the moment.

Thanks a lot and kind regards.

Same here, even with the new version 4.5 the problem persists.

Just for us poor ordinary mortals, could you please explain what you are talking about. To me, the picture is perfectly normal!

Hello IanHarr,

If you look at the windshield you can see that the rain effect is cut in half. The closer you are to the effect and the more it will disappear, while if you are far back from the effect it will display correctly. Let me illustrate (look at both windshields) :

Hello,

just want to join and report I'm affected from this issue also with the FSLabs airbus, but also with my A2A aircraft.
Hope to see some better solution and fix then.

I'm at P3D v4.5 HF1 now and have encountered this with v4.5 the first time.
Can't say for sure if it was present in v4.4 also, don't think so.

I also have this issue as do all other FSLabs users, please prioritise the fix urgently so that we can enjoy the amazing immersion this brings to all, especially those who fly in often wet locations!
