Is P3d ever going to be fixed?

Post by JohnDH1977 »

I was just wondering if LM was ever planning on fixing P3d? I have had it with all the CTD's and BSODs. I am not the only one who is having problems. It is not as if there are not posts in this forum going back literally years and years ALL reporting the same problems I am having today. I have seen posts about fixes that don't work. Drivers this... GPU that.. NTDLL here a Little Stackhash there.. the BSOD with no error log at all. The DGIX device hung crashes.. The DGIX device removed BSODs.

As you can tell I am a bit frusty and have limited pc skills. I do not have the skills or patience to have to reprogram my computer every time I have to update something or have to get drivers. Flightsimming used to be fun but now it's reduced to hoping I don't get a CTD. 5 of the last 6 flights I have attempted have ended in CTD's. Some pre departure still at the gate programming my FMC.. Others just at a random moment enroute.. But my favorite ones are the ones that happen on 5> mile final. What I need is the P3d guru who can take me step by step through what I need to do, otherwise I'm done with this sim. Do not post the standard oh we're sorry have you tried the debugging steps? yes I have and it doesn't work or I can't figure it out and need help.

This is not a technical reply but is a summary of what has worked for me. I also used to have ctd's after a few hours and have had the ctd on the ground as well.
By elimination I have found out that if I restart my PC before a flight (shut down or reset) it helps. Also if it is a long flight, I try to minimise using the PC to watch YouTube items or anything that uses a "bit of power". Mail and news are fine just not video.
My P3D v4.4 is quite stable as a result and I cannot off-hand recall the last CTD.
It seems as though P3D needs a good clean base to work off.
Maybe this helps?

The program Prepar3D.exe version 4.4.16.27077 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Our debugging steps suggest to remove your add-ons which appear to be the cause of many of your crashes. Do you get different results on a clean installation of Prepar3D?

QW 787 and Active Sky+AS Cloud Art are the only addons I have besides sceneries. I don't suspect any of the sceneries since the CTD's happen everywhere. Location doesn't matter. 99% sure it's not scenery. There was just an update to QW787 that I just installed yesterday, but the CTD's have been happening way before that. The qw787.gau crash has also happend before the update. It's actually one of the more rare CTDs I have seen come up.

Another issue I have is my graphics drivers. No matter what driver I install I get CTD's. I am not even sure if i am doing it right. I can't pay another 40 dollars for DDU so a tip on a free utility I can use that won't be Malware or some other shady stuff would be good. I see all over where it says what to do to fix things but I just don't know what they are talking about half the time. AMD Radeon RX580 btw.. their socalled little program to update drivers is *^%* I think. I feel a little scammed tbh. You buy these products and then end up having to be some computer engineer to get the thing all to work. Any help is greatly appriciated and thanks in advance.

John , DDU is free, it will help to uninstall and clean all remains of old graphic drivers. look for instructions by searching DDU Graphics.

The qw787.gau is most probably a 32bit dll file , P3D V4.4 is a 64 bit app so it will fail. You are p[rbably lucky that it popped up as it could be the cause of all your problems , find the file in your gauges folder and rename it qw787.gau.off , try the flight .

also in P3D menu>options>general> application tick the box for Enable content reporting , this will produce a report at the end of a short flight with the 787 and show all the errors that the P3D system is seen and reporting... time to call QW then ...

Renaming qw787.gau as you suggest did not work. It just made all the screens black and none of the switches worked. They were pressable but did not function. There was no ambient sound in the cockpit anymore. I renamed it back without the .off and everything worked again.

I never was known for my patience. I think that may be a part of my problem. After taking a step back for a while and coming back and calmly woring on it I downladed DDU and ran it. Installed the latest AMD drivers. Going to have to do a flight tomorrow. To be continued.

Thanks
John

No wonder X-Plane is rapidly becoming a favorite with developers within the last couple of years. I'm seeing a lot of really nice scenery I'd like to have, being made for X-Plane instead of P3Dv4. I've spend many hundreds of dollars for P3Dv4 addons in the last couple of years, and I'm beginning to wonder if I made a mistake in doing so. P3Dv4 was supposed to be the Gold Standard for flight simulation. Frankly, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I can't afford to start all over again. I've seen many posts on different forums with these same comments. It would be nice to hear from some LM people about this, and maybe get some positive feedback. Thanks.
