Best hard drive option please

Post by Rodney »

Hi Just wondering I have a older 500 gig Sata HD spare , its a western digital and seems to dated 2008.
I have P3DV4.1 and many many Orbx addons.
Would I be best getting a SSD drive or would the older sata drive be fine.
I do know that SSD is faster in loading times but its more about FPS for me .
I have a fairly decent system.
Intel quad core @4.5ghz , 32 gig ram , 1080TI video card

Yes the Sata drive would be fine , with all its limitations : Speed, age, power consumption ..etc... the best option is an SSD , fast , new , reliable ...

I would suggest a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD

It has the best read/write speeds.

Thankyou kindly for replies , yeah seems a waste not use the older HD , but I guess in the long run I would be happier with the SSD , I have so many addons for P3DV4 I can not fit all on my 250 SSD drive I did compress all and still run out of room, to much investment here not to install all , it seems to be an addiction with me though very costly.

Just wanted to mention that SSD vs HD should not affect your FPS. It will just affect your load time a bit.
SSDs are the future, but don't underestimate your space requirements. Space taken up by add-ons can add up quickly!

I have a 1TB SSD with both P3Dv3 & P3Dv4 installed on it. I only have 297GB free.

My add-ons = 53Gb (FreeMeshX, various aircraft, a few freeware airports)
ActiveSky 16 and P3Dv4 versions = 1.4Gb
Rex TD+SC = 18.8Gb
P3Dv3 = 304Gb (252 is Orbx scenery)
P3Dv4 = 306Gb (251 is Orbx scenery)
Note that Orbx scenery is loaded separately for each version of FSX or P3D that you have installed.
Happy flying!
