If that happens then unlike dlls I suppose bgls would require only a conversion utility (I hope) akin to model converter x to become compatible with the 64bit engine?

What a pity!! Another hotfix for 3.4 but nothing about improved performance, more fps or a more modern core engine. We need a better engine with more fps, even more if we talk about using vr.

I think most developers would welcome a transition to 64 bit giving their product better breathing space.

I remember Windows XP professional 64-bit edition coming out back in 2005 (2001 for Itanium). Most development languages have automated conversion software to 64 bit Windows O/S producing revised source and reports showing incompatible/obsolete system calls. Sometimes adjusting and testing the revised code can be a long process.

I'll assume there is legacy infrastructure (MFS) incompatible with a 64-bit environment that makes a conversion impossible. A full cash-intensive re-write is always guided by potential return on investment ;)

After ryzen and the 8 cores they bring, is LM going to take seriously a better multithreading flight engine. Cpus don't come faster, they come with more cores.

Well there's one huge reason. Going to 64bit will break compatibility for pretty much every addon anyone has. Coding for 64bit is VERY different than coding for 32bit. And I can't see developers offering free 64bit versions of there addons to existing customers. It just wouldn't be feasible. Make no mistake, if and when P3D moves to a 64bit platform, it create a LOT more problems than it will solve.

Oh, and since the OP mentioned framerate, I can tell you moving to 64bit won't improve that either. The biggest advantage of going to 64bit would be an end to issues with OOMs.

Just a curious thought in response to this comment. When I'm not flying I play Blizzards World of Warcraft. A behemoth of a game - that comes in both 32 and 64 bit. As do many games. If the coding is so far different, how is this possible? I'm sure they wouldn't have two development paths and yet manage to keep the two products identical at the end user.

The addons are LUA so I guess there's no problem there, but wouldn't a wrapper solve the addon compatibility issue? i'm sure there's a windows 32 bit mode wrapper that does this task for windows 32 apps running on a 64bit platform.

But as you say, the memory limitation is the main reason. If I have 32g of ram, then I want everything in a 100 mile radius rendered in hd and damn the horses, or, cores...

Would 64 bit be more helpful when trying to solve crossfire issues? This is my biggest annoyance (closely followed by not being able to use all my ram). Knowing that Xplane will solve both these issues is incredibly frustrating and I'm only still on P3D because of my cockpit limitations.

No need to go so far. X-Plane comes with a 32 Bit and a 64 Bit executable as well.

Kind regards, Michael

No one makes a video card capable of doing that. I hope you're joking and not really expecting a 64-bit anything to display that level of detail... right?

Right - tongue firmly in cheek, but I can dream. I bought 3 R9 290x just for Flight sim... I'm only using one and I'm sad.

I thought it did but I've only got the 64bit demo so wasn't sure without doing 30 seconds of research.

You are right, as I just double-checked. XP10 indeed comes with a set of 32 bit and 64 bit executables while XP11 seems to have lost the 32 bit executable in the full version which I own, too.

Kind regards, Michael
