Hello everyone,

Been using FSX with lots and lots of add-ons. on a 2013 build i7 with a gtx770. It is time for an upgrade.
I want to be able to fly real approaches using PMDG aircraft i.e. 737 . Does P3d v4 use realworld ILS frequencies etc?

Here is my proposed system

I plan on running the three monitor setup and also using VR quite often using an Occulus Rift S

What do you all think of the build?

What are the must have add ons.

Sorry, I do not get the logic behind this thread... The only thing I can suggest if money does not really matter (what I guess when looking on those components): why not going even further regarding RAM? Look for 4133MHz CL17 modules, you will be able to squeeze out the last remainings with super fast RAM. And forget about 64GB, you will never use it.

Please do not take offense. I am completely unfamiliar with Prepar.. Six years ago, I built a PC with my son, because he loved MS Flight Simulator. It was a father/son build project. We did some online research, and then came up with an i7 build using a GTX 670, When all was said and done... it just ran, OK...There was still a bit of stuttering on the screen, I just felt like it was about a 5 or six out of 10..


He is 15 now and still spends lots of time with his add-on airplanes like the PMDG 737, and numerous other airliners, I see the newer you tube videos and would love to have the smooth performance and graphics that I see on the videos..that is why I spec'd out the stuff , so that at least on the hardware side, it is very cutting edge. One thing I know is that todays cutting edge, gets old quick. I am hoping that we can use this hardware to run the proposed Flight Simulator 2020 from Microsoft.

Switch Aorus Master to the ASUS WS Z390 Workstation (make sure it's the Z390 version!!) [on sale Price= $349] if you can reasonably expect to ever hook up TWO RTX2080ti. (for really high-end VR or displays). The ASUS Workstation uses a multiplexing PCIx controler-chip that allows you to run both cards at 16x/16x which may yield an extra ~5% in graphics card performance when running two cards relative to other Z-390 boards running normally at 8x/8x

When I checked with Nvidia they say you can mix & match board partners as long as they both are 2080ti

Also, I think (for DDR-3200) that 32 Gb of CAS-14 is a better deal than 64 Gb of CAS-16

Select CAS-14 over CAS-16 any time. It costs more, but you will not regret it.

So I decided to go with the Aeorus Master board. I dont really plan on another 2080 ti ( holy Moly) ;-)
I upgraded the memory to two sticks of CAS 14 32gb 3200 DDR4.( $$ ouch)
So we start building today! Fingers crossed!

A 2080TI is something I would love to have, but there's this little thing called BUDGET... and my RAM is 16 GB of 2133 MHz DDR4, I need to upgrade that first, then go for the 2080TI, or whatever nVidia has when I have the cash

Build is done!

It actually fired up and POST ed on the first try. ! My 15 year old did most of the building with his dad looking over his shoulder.. Now I have some cable management to do..then its onto installing windows 10. One of the 1TB SSD's is actually a 500GB by mistake so I have to swap that out tomorrow. Box says 500GB, but the AMAZON label says 1TB.

Then: Update all drivers
try to get some good OC on it I am hoping for a nice 5.0G without having to pump too much voltage thru the i9-9900k. Looks like the average out there is 1.34 -1.37 volts

Then its time to buy Prepar3d and some add ons
I am planning on ORBX Global LC North America for now and a few airports.
also PMDG 737

That should get me started!

Im worried about the processor base 3.6 turbo 5. Is this ok or the performance will improve a lot with something OC around let’s say 4.7?

I don’t need every setting on max, Im happy to spend just the necessary to run orbx with the recommended to enjoy it while using VR on v4.5 and hopefully FS2020

What is important in P3D is the processor base clock rate, in this case 3.6 GHz. The number of cores do not matter much, as P3D basically a single-threaded application, and forget about the "Turbo" rate.

Personally I would look for a processor with a higher base clock rate (my own i7-7700K has a base rate of 4.2 GHz, and conservatively overclocked it runs at 4.66 GHz), and of course a K-processor that you can overclock.

I would also check to see if this motherboard can accommodate faster RAM than 3200 MHz, in particular look for RAM with a low "CAS latency" rate. One of the first things you should do when you get the system, no matter what motherboard you end up choosing, is to upgrade the BIOS. And why not the TI-versoin of the graphics card, with 11 GB of VRAM?

Ehm, you are aware about what the i9-9900K actually is? It IS a -K processor you can overclock and although Intel does specify the base clock with 3.6GHz, it will never run on such a low clock rate but on the all core turbo of 4.7GHz. Means: a 9900K is faster than your overclocked 7700K already without overclocking. Just saying ;-)

Will it now? My understanding of "turbo" is that it kicks in under heavy load for a brief period of time, therefore I would want a permanent high clock rate... but my understandings have been off before.

Hello guys, did some reading about OC but also about performance and p3d and it seems like is never enough.

So I was considering a custom build with rtx2080 and then I found a used pc pretty much the same specs but gtx1080ti (inno3d). I know is not ideal but the pc is slightly used and inno3d while is not a popular brand, apparently is not bad. Price being 40% less, is it worth considering? I want p3d to run well with VR but not to the point of selling my car to get 5 fps more 😂 I thinking about reinvesting the savings on addons, better VR lens etc
