Hello,
Currently I have the following system:
- i7 4790k @ 4.6 Ghz
- 16 GB RAM
- Geforce GTX 780ti
- FSX SP2
- Windows 10 x64
- Monitor 1920 x 1080 (1x)
This year I want to migrate to P3D v4, and I know it is much more GPU bound then FSX. Normally I would say getting a card as fast as possible, but since I am only using 1 monitor on HD resolution, does it make sense?
Thanks for your thoughts!
Erik
P3D GTX1080ti overkill?
Re: P3D GTX1080ti overkill?
Split the money on a display with 1440 lines and a not so good graphics card.
Re: P3D GTX1080ti overkill?
Assuming Pv4 is a 64-bit product, video memory combined with power and strength of your video card will probably have more impact. Monitor size will also impact video memory even if it's 32-bit.

This year? What makes you so certain that it will be out this year?
Windows 11 x64 on a 4TB SSD | AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X | TRX40 AORUS Master | 128GB DDR4 3600MHz | 1250W PSU | 2x EVGA RTX 3090 | P3D v5 and MSFS2020 on a 4TB SSD | Custom Corsair Hydro Cooling
Re: P3D GTX1080ti overkill?
.....and what makes you so sure that there will be a V4 which, I'm assuming, you are expecting to be 64bit? The NDA has got this one sown up so tightly we feed instead on rumours, thinly disguised hints and speculations and, as far as I am aware, nothing of a concrete nature. If such ever drove progress in the right direction then this may turn out to be a prime example...or, dare I say it, not ;)
As for the GTX 1080Ti, you can never have enough firepower. Budgets and realistic expectations are always the main constraining factors.

Re: P3D GTX1080ti overkill?
From past experience, if you stick to HD resolution, your 780 will do the job.
However, if you are planning to go 4K then the 1080ti will be your best option.
Cheers,

Sorry for the assumption of a P3D v4, 64 bits, and this year... Thi sis only my personal expectation and not based on any evidence at all ;)
But to stay on topic; I think I'll wait and see how it performs and decide on an upgrade later on. In the meanwhile the price of the 1080ti is also lower (I assume :))
