Thinking of the future of P3D based systems, these questions arise out of a concern about how long P3D will remain active and functional on a given computer system, after it has been sucessfully activated.
What information does a P3D Client exchange with LM, and when does this occur ?
Does this exchange depend on the License that P3D is running under ?
One assumes that during Installation, that there is an exchange of Data between the Clients PC and LM, to authorize the install. This is typically done over the Internet.
Since a Developer's License is renewed every MONTH, or every YEAR, one assumes that there is communication at some time during this period, to check that the License is still valid. Without an Internet Connection, once again, I assume the ability to run P3D would stop, after the current Developer's License expires.
But what is the situation with the Commercial License, or the Educational Licensed product, after it has been activated. ?
(1) Is an Internet connection need to maintain operation of the Commercial and Educational Licensed product. ?
(2) If there is an Internet connection, do these products communicate with LM when they are run.
If so, what data is exchanged ?
(3) If there is communication, can this communication in any way, alter the product , or stop it from operating. ?
Basically, for a purchased, installed and activated Commercial or Educational P3D, should it be able to run without connection to the internet, and is there any sort of expirary date on its operation, if there is no Internet connection. ?
(4) Will an Educational/Commercial version 1.4 (say) be able to be moved to a different computer, after version 2.x is released. ie Will "re-installation" of 1.4 still be supported, after 2.0 is released ?
(5) If LM decided, at some time in the future to abandon P3D to the marketplace ( Like MS did with FSX and more importantly ESP), would the product still continue to operate, or would any Commercial systems, using a Commercial License cease to function. ?
