Polar Region

Post by Alexander Mattheis »

Dear LM,

I had a hard time flying over the north-pole, in fact I couldnt complete it at all because of enormous VAS-usage of the simulation (v3.4).

Are there any chances to get a full working polar region in v4 and further on?

I understand that most of your customers dont have the urgent training need to fly trans-polar but on the other hand - if you sell a "whole earth training environment", "accurate topography" and "worldwide vector data" than it should be complete, including polar regions, shouldnt it?

Best

Version 3 will be more sensitive to memory increases especially when using add-ons. In version 4 you will not be constrained to 4gb of VAS. This will most likely alleviate the memory constraints you are experiencing in the polar regions.

Thank you, Rob

Its sadly not just about the VAS - I encounter scenery problems up there, I attached you a picture.http://prntscr.com/gbdhlx

Alexander,

The accuracy of scenery areas is dependent on data resolution. Can you post a more clear screenshot of the specific issues you are seeing. Screenshots can be captured in Prepar3D by pressing the 'v' key.

Are you seeing this with default content or are scenery add-ons installed? Also when do you see this gap appear? Does it only appear after crossing over the pole?

I have FTX Global / Vector / openLC EU/NA installed. No other scenery for this region is installed. The gap shows up within 30 minutes from departing ENSB to the north.

Is it fully possible to make a transpolar flight in v4? AFAIK in previous versions (or MSFS maybe) it was not possible.

I haven't tried on v4 yet, but have made successful trans-polar flights Svarlbard-Fairbanks in my Phenom 300 using default scenery. What I would like is Aurora Borealis - anyone know if there is an addon for that?

We're having trouble reproducing this issue on our end. To rule out an add-on potentially causing this could you run through our general debugging steps and see if the issue persists? viewtopic.php?f=6312&t=123246
