Garmin 500 Menu button will not activate next leg

Postby Gary Z. » Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:05 am

I used to be able to use the following procedure to activate the next leg in a flight plan:

To activate a specific leg of the active flight plan:
1. From the Active Flight Plan page, press the CRSR button to activate the cursor.
2. Rotate the large knob to highlight the desired destination waypoint.
3. Press the MENU button, select the "Activate Leg?" option, and press the ENT button. (GPS 500 only)
-or-
Press the Direct-to button twice. (GPS 500 and GPS 295)
4. A confirmation window will appear. With Activate? highlighted, press the ENT button.

Now, when pressing the Enter button in step 4 the next leg selected in step 2 is not activated and the flight plan still follows the current leg. Shall I reinstall P3D?

Any advice will be deeply appreciated. Running Windows 10, Prepar3D_v5_Professional_5.0.31.35253, Maule M7 260C Paint 1 with Garmin 500 displayed.

Though you are quoting from the FSX GPS500 manual, mine actually works slightly different for step 3 and 4:

3. Press the MENU button and a confirmation window will appear with Activate? highlighted
-or-
Press the Direct-to button twice. (GPS 500 and GPS 295) and a confirmation window will appear with Activate? highlighted.

4. Press the ENT button.

I tried Siletto's steps and failed again. No way to get Garmin 500 to skip to next or any other leg. Used to work just fine.

@ Gary Z ,

Do you have a short route (plan) example to test?

Do a screenshot or two (or video) to show what you are doing.

Yes Vaughn, thanks for asking and replying. I tried Direct To which works and takes me to any destiantion, but it also kicks me out of my flight plan described here with:

Depart KBFI>Way Point 3>Intersection VOYNO>Intersection WIBAT>Touch & Go at KRNT>Intersection ZEBKU>Touch & Go at S36>Fly over 9WA7>Way Point WP2>Touch & Go at S50>Waypoint COUGAR>land at KBFI.
Either all or any part of this circuit used to work fine upon skipping a leg, but no more.

Thanks, Gary

@ Gary Z ,

That is not what I was asking for to do a test.
I have no idea what the touch and go is all about in reference to the initial post / activate next leg.

No screenshots?

OH, sorry, I mistakenly thought you wanted my flight plan. I can move my G500 display off the Nav monitor and onto my 3-screen scenery monitor and try to take a screen shot. At what moment along the flight plan would you want me to take the screen shot?

I'll also try to reassign all the GPS menu buttons via Spadnext and the Desktop Aviator to see if that helps restore Menu's leg activation and will let you know.

Thanks, Gary

@ Gary Z. ,

Example screenshot of:
As per from your first post:
To activate a specific leg of the active flight plan.

As for the flight plan length say a route with :
Departure, 8 waypoints and the destination.

OK Vaughn, I'll do a series of screen shots. As I was flying again tonight, the problem mysteriously repaired itself. The GPS Menu button now activates any leg I want to jump to. I have no idea what I may have done or how it fixed itself -- frustrating! Nevertheless, I'll re-test again tomorrow and document each action with screen shots. How do I get screen shots to you? Shall I place them onto Google photo album? I never took screen shots before nor published them.

Thanks for your patience,
Gary
