Hi Kayla,
During my tests I made an observation which I would like to share with you.

To find the reason of the performance loss in 4.5 I did not fly myself, I just used the AI Aircrafts to find the reason.

At different Airports Default (no Addon just P3d) and different Addon Airports I made the same experience as follow....

I did theese tests at different times, like Dust, Dawn, Day and Night and it was always the same observation.

I used the outside view of the AI Aircrafts and paning around to have different view angles.
I noticed the following:
-the moment the horizon line comes into view the frames are dropping dramatically.
-the moment only the ground or the sky is in view the frames are absolutely fine.

My specs:
Win 7 64bit professional
I7 6700K 4,2 Ghz
Geforce GTX 1080TI 11GB Vram

Using 2 Monitors P3d stretched over both Monitors and full screen (alt enter) 3840x1080

A few examples with default airports:
Frames with horizon in view (even a few mm in view) between 30-40, with only the ground between 60-70, with only sky 90-120. Repeatable at 4 different Airports

Examples at Addon Airports (used EDDC, LOWW, EDDB)

light areas, means only one Airport in vicinity
Frames with Horizon in view 25-32, with only the ground 50-60, only the sky 70-80

Example heavy area (EDDB)
Frames with horizon in view 17-20, with only the ground 27-38, only sky 35-45

The above variations are noticed just because of paning around the Aircraft during moving on ground or flight.

Settings in P3Dv4 are pretty high like 8SSAA, filtering 16, frames to unlimited, dyn light on, shadows clouds and aircraft, scenery autogen draw distance high, vegetation very dense, buildings dense

No difference of the results even with low visibility, means horizon line not physical visible due to limited weather.

I remember at the beginning of P3Dv4 we had the same problem (heavy performance drop) with the horizon line, especially at dusk and dawn and dyn lights enabled and LM overcame it with an update!
So I hope theese observations are helping you to tackle down the problem in 4.5 as under normal circumstances pilots are in the cockpit and therefore they have always the horizon in view.

Hello all,

Can you post your system specs?

Have you tested this without any addons installed?

Can you provided a specific location to test, as well as your settings?

If using multiple monitors, how are you maximizing Prepar3D across your monitors? (View groups, stretching the window and alt + enter, external tool, etc)

Have you disabled any performance monitoring tools? (GeForce Experience, Radeon Overlay, etc)

Thanks,
Kayla
Hello dear Kayla.

Simbol Has directed me to this topic.

I'm just gonna copy paste my previous post here.

From release time I have tried 3 installation. All of them complete and free of any addon or modification. My setup was able to maintain 100FPS on a clean installation with the all the fresh graphics setting. didn't touch anything. now it is 100 FPS but every 3 second ...drops down to 10-15 FPS and goes up... makes any simple aircraft movement almost impossible.

I have been over the web and all forum from that night, tried every single solution written on this Forum or Avsim or every video that I found online. No. Nothing helped. Registry cleaned, Windows installation is not older than 1 month, not many apps are installed, 70% of applications that I installed are just Drivers for system on windows 7. All of them updated and working fine on every benchmark application including 3Dmark Firestrike, Unigine Heaven, Valley, Superposition, even tried out some games, Solid and Stable CPU and GPU usage and so stable FPS...

things I've tried other than the ones I mentioned above:
using DDU and installing a the most up to date Driver for graphics ( tried 419.6 , 419.3 , 425 (( newest one from april 11th )) , and also 398.36 ). none of them helped.
Setting the Right GPU for P3D.
and Almost setting on and off every single setting in NVCPL ... no success.
Also have a Screen shot from one of the moments that I captured that CPU usage goes super low ( the Core 0 which renders )
http://uupload.ir/files/r14d_p3d_cpu_unnormal_usage.png

None of my tries were successful, I was able to reproduce the problem more 25-30 times in KVPS with default F22, With Mooney Bravo , With F35, Piper Cub, and tied different locations like Default OMDB , OIII , everything is fine, all the sliders default, the result i the same, If I crank up all the settings ( except scenery complexity and Building Autogen cuz I always left Complexity at Normal and Autogen building off ) in the middle of a desert I can maintain a solid 70-80 some times up to 100 with SSAA 8X, but around Cities and Airports , no matter what setting , even Setting them all to the left with 256x256 Texture Resolution, with everything OFF ( again Autogen Building Off , Scenery Complexity Normal ) , I get stutters.

my system specs:
Asus N46VZ - Core i7 3610QM ,16GB DDR3L 1.6GHz CL11, 120 GB ADATA SSD ( Win 7 x64 ), 500 GB Evo960 ( Sim ). External GPU: Asus ROG STRIX 1070ti A8G No OC. Stock Cooler. Native Resolution: 1366x768

Edit: I was able to reproduce the same issue with Dedicated GPU ( 650M 2GB ) and Also Using my 1070ti. no matter what stutter is there. I don't have recording app at this time. But will try to buy one if you really require that.

Edit2: I have been using Resource monitor of Windows to see what is causing. nothing but P3D. Tried to check out My thermal Situation for CPU and GPU, CPU at around 70's ( TJmax is 105 ) and my 1070ti is never over 50C. Power consumption is always normal according to HW info. I have tried to reproduce the problem with and without hardware monitoring tools, with and without performance Counters. no matter. it happens.

Edit3: Yes , I swear to god, I have read all the official and User Guides over AVSIM and P3D Forum.

Best Regards

Hi Kayla,

Just wanted to add the following to my previous posting in https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15#p196294

In my VFR flight over the London area (Heathrow EGLL to London City EGLC), I had the following Orbx sceneries in use: Global Base Pack, OpenLC Europe, Global Vector, Global Trees HD, Region EU (England, not the TE GB South!). I was using the Milviz MD530 chopper. As already mentioned in my previous posting, I'm using a triple monitor setup using a view group for the virtual cockpit.

I tested using my original configuration (Prepar3D.cfg) used in v4.4. When I saw the drop in frame rates, I deleted the original Prepar3D.cfg file completely and let v4.5 regenerate a new PrePar3D.cfg file. Even this did not help. The following is a copy of what was in my original configuration (Prepar3D.cfg) file used in v4.4 when I updated to v4.5.

Re: Frame issues in Prepar3D v4.5

Postby galeair » Fri Apr 12, 2019 1:22 pm

I loaded 4.5 client yesterday, new CFG and deleted shaders, and with identical settings my frame rates at EGHI, using the QW Avro 100 with the following Orbx sceneries in use were:

Global Base Pack
OpenLC Europe
Global Vector
Global Trees
EU Region
England
EGHI

Active Sky weather with REX Skyforce3D.

Frame rates dropped from 30+ FPS with version 4.4 to 21/24 FPS with 4.5 and a slight stuttering when taxiing. There did seem to be a slight drop in loading times, but as I approached Innsbruck ( ORBX) the sim paused for 10 seconds as usual, presumably while the scenery loaded.

I reinstalled the 4.4 client today, left the shaders and CFG unchanged, and EGHI with the same settings is showing 30 FPS plus again.
So untill someone comes up with a fix for the FPS drop I will stick with 4.4.

I did some tests in the Barcelona aerea and some other heavy airports in south of Europe. For LEBL I have installed the Aerosoft Mega Airport Barcelona professional, and Orbx Barcelona Cityscene.
On global base the Orbx Base Pack, Vector, and OpenLC are installed. Simulator environment: 8700K, 5GHz, 16GB 3200, 1080TI, 3 data projectors. Active Sky was updated for P3D v4.5 compatibility.
P3D V4.5 Client only update. Test results even with the performance demanding Orbx Barcelona Cityscene were perfect. Nothing what I could complain.

Then I went to some German airports. Catastrophic results! Frankfurt (EDDF) with Aerosoft Professional runs only with 11fps. I did some investigations and unchecked the Orbx EU Germany South in the scenery library. Frame rate jumped back to 27fps!!!. Same in Hamburg (EDDH) with Orbx EU Germany North. Of course with P3D V4.4 their was also a performance inpact with the Orbx EU Germany sceneries, but far away from those numbers.

All of you, having drops with the fps with p3d 4.5, have you too fps drops in a "native" aera ?

me too ; i initially thought the long frames had gone until i loaded up the new fslabs a320 today.

Same stack / setup as 4.4 and i'm seeing FPS drop of 10 from 30 down to 18-20. tried with 4.4 cfg file and letting it re-gen, yes shaders etc cleared out.

I will do some more testing ive only had 1 flight so far

thanks for the update

I just hope LM dont come back and say its due to the added features and we cant do any thing about it and we need to upgrade our hardware...i would rather them update the default airports and fix the terrain.cfg (left over from FSX days) then giving us features that degrade performance ... leave that for P3Dv5

I'm running a brand new computer from Jetline with a Geforce RTX 2080TI GDDR and an i9 9900K 5.0 processor on three monitors using Nvidia surround and it is a stutter fest for me. Everything was smooth as silk on 4.4 so there must be something going on here. Oddly, my frame rates aren't bad, I just get huge stutters and pauses that make the sim unflyable, particularly at certain add on airports. I only updated the client and the content, not scenery. Also deleted shaders and config. I updated active sky and fsuipc. I will check to see how default airports are but even at cruising altitude in the PMDG 747 I get stutters simply panning in the cockpit.

Also, if I run on a single monitor, full screen or not, the screen will go black every few seconds and flicker. Maybe a driver issue?

Can I go back to the 4.4 client and keep the 4.5 content? I don't have a back up of all the 4.4 components. I hope this get's solved for those of us who are suffering from this. Amy help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Something i noticed with 4.5 vs 4.4
The loooooong frames used to occur 25 miles out from a large airport (ie uk2000) with my distance settings
On a flight ive done a few times I noticed I get the long frame 40 miles out ... is 4.5 loading an extra 15 miles of stuff in with the same visual settings . This may explain the framerate reduction.
Landing at my home airport in 4.5 with the new a320 (v300) was jerky. I will re-run a few times then go back to 4.4 and test.

Can I go back to the 4.4 client and keep the 4.5 content? I don't have a back up of all the 4.4 components. I hope this get's solved for those of us who are suffering from this. Amy help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Yes , i just reinstalled the 4.4 client but had to keep 4.5s content and scenery as i had to use the legacy file... frame rates were back to normal then

Hi,

I´m not 100% sure, but for me the "polyline autogen buildings" seem to be the culprit for low fps in 4.5
For testing: set your autogen to lower settings, so that polyline buildings will disappear and your fps should go back to normal or even higher than in 4.4.
This would explain, regarding to the posts here, that in Barcelona region with our "sim-wings BCN Mega airport" in combination with ORBX Barcelona city scene (which does NOT use polyline buildings) frames are OK, but in EDDF of the German Airports Team fps will drop, cause of the huge amount of autogen polyline buildings at Frankfurt city. I discoverd the same behaviour at EDDL, even with all default (airport and city)

Just a hint to check.

thanks for the warning @simmershome....

Im not sure how LM is testing this but in a world where 92% of the users are using many addons i would say its time to test in such environments. Not in a clean sim. A clean sim has nothing to do with the P3d that ppl fly.

This is ok for game development and other areas where of course its not the devs job to look for every update and see if it works with that. But i think the sim environment is a bit different...

Make the test environment with many orbx things & scenery installed, ActiveSky running and GSX and a few other things running same time. Then you have the real test environemnt that has something to do with "real world"

With thousands of add-ons and literally hundreds of thousands of possible conflicts how do you believe testing should be done?

Just this afternoon I found an FSX add-on that forces 32-bit runtime files on a 64-bit system that wrecks other add-ons. You want the P3D testers to solve this? Many add-ons simply replace default files of the sim, you want Lockheed to solve that?

Like almost every other project manager of add-ons, we guarantee it works with the sim. It is totally impossible to promise everything else. What version of GSX? What version of ActiveSky? If you are able to keep that all tested with all the complex aircraft we sell I really would like to hire you as a quality assurance employee. We never managed. I know no company who managed.

Interesting .. that could explain why some users see the drop while other dont... if they have their Autogen building slider lower then these polyline autogen buildings wont display hence they dont notice any drop, i use max Autogen buildings and trees but use medium for the draw distance one and i see the fps drop .
