[RESOLVED] View group misaligned on startup

Post by cockpitbuilder »

Hello community,
upgrading P3D from version 3.3 to 4, I'm experiencing problems with the view groups. The viewgroups.xml is autogenerated by Nicola's FlyElise "Immersive Calibration" and works flawlessly on v3.3.
After installing the new version I copied the viewgroups.xml file into the equivalent destination folder of 4 (C:/ProgramData/Lockheed Marting/P3D v4 (instead of v3)).

When starting P3D v4 one or more views are shifted inside the view group by roughly 20px. You can observe this by deselecting the "Auto black out" option. You will recognize stripes of the blue desktop on the left and right side of the center view. The system consists of 3 projectors.

You can fix that misaligned view group by reactivating it through Right click -> View Groups -> "Immersive Calibration". It then repositions the views so that they're no gaps anymore.

Did you change anything in v4 that could cause that issue? P3D is running in full screen.

Thank you in advance for your help,
Georg

Hi Georg,

If you save the view group after re-correcting it does the problem go away? Do you see any differences in the xml file compared to the v3 version?

Dear Rob,
thank you for your reply! After recorrecting I entered the view group management window and just clicked "OK". Do you mean that by "saving" the view group? It unfortunately reappeared on the next launch.

There aren't any differences in the .xml files. We're actually facing that issue on four setups right now. Is it necessary to deactivate the taskbar or anything like that? I attached the viewgroups.xml file and a photo for better understanding.

Best regards,
Georg

I've got a few follow up questions. What version of windows are you running? Are you using DPI/Text-Size scaling settings? Does exiting and re-entering full-screen fix the issue?

Thanks

Dear Beau,
I'm running Windows 10 having the latest updates. The scaling is at 100%. Exiting and reentering full screen doesn't fix that issue. I just received the information that the system I calibrated yesterday runs P3D v4.2. Two other systems run P3D v4.1 and the one I sent you the picture of runs v4.0. They all behave equally.

Georg

Hi All,

A few weeks ago I analyzed this problem for another client.
Here is the result of the analysis:

////////////
With ViewGroups enabled, P3D should put the viewgroups windows in "full screen" mode on startup.
So, as I expected, P3D is not putting the windows in full screen mode initially.

Here is the sequence of the events:

1. P3D creates the Virtual Cockpit View 1 (with resolution 1904x1072. this is not the full screen mode 1920x1080).

9.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] --- WWW H[001704fc] C[FS98FLOAT] W[Virtual Cockpit - View 01] T[00001fe4] M[00010007] R[3848,0 1904x1072] CR[0,0 1904x1072]

2. IDP hooks and start warping this window

29.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] --- DX11WarpContext 372cc040
29.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] ------ IN=00000000
29.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] ------ OUT=00000000
29.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferCount=3
29.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferDesc.Width=1904
29.03.2018 14:03:45.882 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferDesc.Height=1072

3. P3D creates the main window with the resolution 1920x1080

29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] --- WWW H[000500ce] C[FS98MAIN] W[Lockheed Martin® Prepar3D® v4] T[00001fe4] M[00010003] R[1920,0 1920x1080] CR[0,0 1920x1080]

4. IDP hooks and start warping this window
29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] --- DX11WarpContext 3ab49040
29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] ------ IN=00000000
29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] ------ OUT=00000000
29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferCount=3
29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferDesc.Width=1920
29.03.2018 14:03:45.883 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferDesc.Height=1080

5. P3D creates Virtual Cockpit View 2 (with resolution 1904x1072. this is not the full screen mode 1920x1080).
29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] --- WWW H[00070904] C[FS98FLOAT] W[Virtual Cockpit - View 02] T[00001fe4] M[00010005] R[5768,0 1904x1072] CR[0,0 1904x1072]

6. IDP hooks and start warping this window

29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] --- DX11WarpContext 3add4040
29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] ------ IN=00000000
29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] ------ OUT=00000000
29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferCount=3
29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferDesc.Width=1904
29.03.2018 14:03:45.884 [00001fe4] ------ desc.BufferDesc.Height=1072

CONCLUSION:

So, as expected, P3D is using FS98MAIN] W[Lockheed Martin® Prepar3D® v4] to render Virtual Cockpit - View 03. This window is with the correct resolution.
However, the Virtual Cockpit - View 01 and Virtual Cockpit - View 02 windows are NOT in full screen mode.
P3D is messed up again :-(

Re-selecting the same ViewGroup from the menu, puts all windows in the full screen 1920x1080 resolution.
You can try to toggle the full screen mode just after P3D startup to see if this makes some difference.

For now, there is a manual workaround you might want to try. Switch out of full screen and maximize the undocked windows to force them to fill their displays. Then go back into full screen to remove the borders.
