P3D V5 Hot Fix Weather Problems

Post by Opus Software »

There are still major problems with Prepar3D V5 weather after the hot fix.

Surface and Upper Winds

Still getting almost constant wind shifts during flight !

The surface winds do seem to move slowly to match their injected wind direction. However, when the aircraft is sat on the ground the surface wind would be better if it just snapped to the correct injected direction.

During periods of the flight I still see almost constant wind direction shifts causing problems with the aircraft's flight.

Enhanced Atmospherics (Beta)

Basically, no precipitation displayed and still severe sky/cloud flicker during weather station creation and updates.

There is still severe sky/cloud flicker each time weather stations are created and also each time weather is injected into either a new or an existing (Prepar3D) weather station. This occurs irrespective of where the stations are located (e.g. they can be 80+ miles away). The flicker occurs both with METAR and PDK weather updates.

As before, the severe sky/cloud flicker makes the new Enhanced Atmospherics (Beta) mode totally unusable in all but a Dynamic Weather Theme mode.

There is no sky/cloud flicker when the Enhanced Atmospherics (Beta) is turned OFF.

No Precipitation

No matter what mode is used to inject weather, the required precipitation will not be rendered in the Enhanced Atmospheric (Beta) mode.

There is no precipitation displayed even though the rain can be heard on the aircraft canopy. No precipitation rates will display rain or snow. Note, only one single layer of cloud is specified to generate precipitation down to 0 or even -1500 feet.

The precipitation is depicted correctly, as expected, as soon as the Enhanced Atmospherics (Beta) is turned OFF.

Control over Ambient Wind and Direction

Will you please allow third-party weather engines to take full control over the ambient wind (direction and speed) and ambient temperature through the PDK V500 interface.

That way we can put an end to ALL wind shifts once and for all.

I have had to post a new OpusFSI v6 Beta providing an option to set all upper wind strengths to 2 knots hence nullifying the effects of the frequent P3D wind shifts.

Seems this was all but ignored by LM altogether which is a sad day. I hope HIFi can get active sky to work some magic otherwise V5 will be without a good working wx TIL the next hotfix or big update.

Totally disagree.

OpusFSI v6 is already working perfectly fine thanks with P3Dv5, it always has!

OpusFSI v6 generates the most complex and detailed weather of all the weather engines (bar none !).

OpusFSI has always worked with P3Dv5. I no longer use P3Dv4.5 and am enjoying the improvements in P3Dv5 with excellent weather depiction. All you need to do (for the time being) in OpusFSI v6 is enable the Wind Stabilisation option in our Weather Smoothing and Stabilisation dialog and go flying. Any OpusFSI update mode can be used with the P3D Enhanced Atmospherics (Beta) disabled. Dynamic Weather Theme mode (an Opus invention) is recommended with the Enhanced Atmospherics (Beta) enabled.
