Changing the pitch range in Targeting Pod

Postby tauseefAhmed » Wed Aug 07, 2019 7:23 am

Greetings to the P3D Community.
I'm working on Targeting Pod sample of P3D and trying to change the pitch range. Currently the range is set between -90 & +90.
See the picture below please.

The particular scenario I'm working on has a pitch range between -120 & +30.

The Targeting Pod sample allows to change the pitch using by a function

Code: Select all

SetContinuousPitch()
but won't allow me to change the pitch ranges according to my requirement.
I have read the documentation and camera configuration files but they all say one thing that is "I can set any pitch value in between -90 & +90." But there should be a defined range which tells the camera to stop when the pitch touches +90 or -90. (Which I'm unable to find in any config file).
If I'm able to edit that defined range (if any), my problem will be solved.

Can Lockheed Martin confirm if this range is constant and can't be customized or does LM allow us to modify the min and max Pitch value as I mentioned above?

Thank you for your attention,

Instead of using SetContinuousPitch, try the SetPbh function. That way you have complete control over where the camera is looking.

Code: Select all

SetPbh();
and

Code: Select all

SetGlobalPbh();
allows me to set a pitch value BUT it takes value between -90 & +90.
If i want to set a pitch value less than -90, it won't go below -90. Instead, it stops at -90.

Is there any option available in P3D which allows us to change this default range of -90-+90?

I'm sure someone at LM could guide me. Anyone?

Thank you for your attention.

I’m not sure if you read the previous post on this issue, but the very nature of Euler rotations are such that pitch can never exceed +-90!
If you want to go beyond 90 deg downwards, you need to add 180 deg to your heading value, and then start moving pitch back towards 0.
