Tacan not picking up Vortac

Postby azreark1 » Mon May 06, 2019 10:13 pm

So we've implemented a TACAN in to a new aircraft and works great, only problem now is that it's not picking up native P3D Vortac's (which it should). Any help on this?

I wrote completely independent navigation radios to avoid this "problem", and added a bunch of features not present in P3D.

Another solution is to convert the TACAN channel to VOR frequency then feed this to the P3D nav radio.

The conversion from TACAN to VHF frequency is:

TACAN channel <= 59: (CHN + 1063) / 10 = VHF freq
TACAN channel >= 70: (CHN + 1053) / 10 = VHF freq

Band X = x.00
Band Y = x.05

Convert 59X:

(59 + 1063) / 10 = 112.20

Convert 59Y:

(59 + 1063) / 10 = 112.20
Y = 112.20 + 0.05 = 112.25

Convert 70X:

(70 + 1053) / 10 = 112.30

Convert 70Y:

(70 + 1053) / 10 = 112.30
Y = 112.30 + 0.05 = 112.35
All comments and opinions are my own.
