Dynamic Lighting (DayNight/DawnDusk)

Post by pillack01 »

Hello dear developer of the Prepar3D.

Regarding the dynamic lights Type 28 I have a question. Normal effects, such as fx.navlightred.fx, are controlled by the Day/Night/Dawn/Dusk parameters. But what about dynamic lights, do they have to be controlled by the parameters, or does the P3Dv4-Game-engine automatically detect if they are dynamic lights?

So the question is whether you have to set parameters for dynamic lights (Typ28 & Type27, SpotLight) so that the lights are not displayed during the day.

Best regards

Not done extensive testing, But Arno found when adding dynamic lights to MCX, without the parameters available to set, the lights showed day and night. Adding the parameters allowed users to turn them off in the day.

Not sure if an effect created by FX_tool instead of MCX would distinguish automatically between day and night. You can have the intensity at zero in the day colour setting, and we assume the light is not there doing unecessary calculations. Would be nice to know for sure from LM.

Hi,

thanks for the explanation. But unfortunately I need reliable information on the subject, which is why I had asked the question so synonymous directly to a P3DV4 developer here in the forum. Maybe someone from the LM team will answer.

All the best and best regards

Hi Christian,

Yes, you'll have to set the intensity to 0 for dynamic lights to turn them off during these times.

In summary, one can say that one can turn off its dynamic lights during the day by setting the color values (Color Start = 0,0,0,0) to zero and the old parameter control over DayNight and DuskDawn is used for dynamic lights Type27 and Type 28 no longer needed. So it is enough to set the values for day to zero.

Thank you Rob for your answer!
