So...upgraded Client only with the recommended Nvidia drivers and the awful flickering has gone. However framerate is only 28-30 fps. That's with twin 980ti cards and sli enabled. With one card and sli disabled I get an easy 60-70fps. Summat is still not right! I don't really want to revert to earl...

I came back to my old driver (368.22) and everything is fine.
My problem was not related to LM or HiFi but to Nvidia.

I did the latest updates of P3D, Nividia driver and AS2016 and the performances not only are not improved but they have worsened.

In addition, with 4K just use the MSAA 4x filter in P3D for the perfection.

The microstutters arise because P3D can not maintain the refresh rate of the monitors at 60 Hz and the internal lock at 30 FPS does not work optimally because P3D has not a true full screen and can not be used in Nvidia control panel adaptive 1/2 refresh rate.

That 4K monitor also has a native refresh rate of 30 Hz.

For shimmering, flickering, stutters, the ultimate solution is a monitor 4K with refresh rate set to 30 Hz.
