Yeah I see this too (since v5 released). Thought it was lightning at first but clearly a bug. I don't like EA so this is quite annoying and I'm surprised it has survived 2 hot fixes even though I realise only so much can be fixed per release. Win10 2004 all updates latest driver shaders cleared etc....

I'm hoping that LM leave the old style clouds/weather available to be selected even when EA moves out of beta. If this has to be done via a manual change to the config file then that's fine. Any value above 6.5 is ignored and has been since the terrain engine was modified for v4.
However you can increase the terrain lod by a small factor using the check box on the settings page (use high resolution terrain textures).

Hmm..if you can find those two files located in your scenery folder then your download was different to mine :) Easiest is KRND_ADEX.bgl - it should be in scenery\cities\KRND_Randolph_AFB\cities I'm not sure that these files are actually causing the OPs issue it's just that I noticed these files wer...

A folder comparison tool has shown me that between v5.0.21 and v5.0.24 there are two scenery files missing from HF1. These belong to Randolph.

Whether this is deliberate or a mistake LM would have to let us know.

I have this issue too since the hot fix. (I also see no aircraft in the preview window). I run 30fps/30hz/Vsync/Triple Buffer/4xSSAA and terrain, sky, aircraft skin, etc. are all flashing every second or so from any/all camera views. I would see the odd cloud flash pre HF1 but nothing on this scale....

Not quite sure why LM have it turned off by default (there may be good reason) or now require you to edit the cfg file to turn it on but for me it's an essential. Okay, a correction and an apology to LM - I've just let P3D5 build a fresh prepar3d.cfg file and DETAIL_TEXTURE was set to 1 by default....

If you're able and willing then I've identified the shader file you can edit to dial down the effect (I find it too strong) but this reduces the effect on runways etc too. I don't think it has any other side effects but is easy to remove if there are.
