After renaming the Effects folder in Add-on Manager to Effects.sav and running P3D, the popup screen did appear. It seems there is another factor in Add-on Manager involved in the error message.

I have not copied an fx file to the main effects folder to test, until the problem has been found.

Yes Michel, it is there with only effects.cfg in the Effects folder. I suspect the problem may lie in another add-on, because I have also removed AFLT from the scenery and still the error popup shows on startup.
I will investigate further by eliminating other add-ons until the popup disappears.

OK, I have done exactly as you described and fx_beacon.fx does not cause popup.

I have also searched the Effects.sav folder for two AFLT fx files and they are not present in the Effects.sav folder, only in the AFLT folder.
